Wiper blades on Ducato

On my Kontiki based on a Ducato, I've always had a problem seeing through the window when it's raining. The wiper blade doesn't reach the top of the screen and as I'm tall, I have to look through the un-wiped bit or duck slightly.

I've now changed the original 22" blade for a 26" and it's much better, doesn't touch anything around the window.

My only concern is: will the extra drag cause the wiper motor/mechanism too much strain??

I've only changed the drivers side as the passengers side would catch the edge of the frame.

Can't see it being a problem.

However I would change both of them so that the load on both parts of the wiper linkage is the same.

At the moment that's not the case and may well lead to unequal wear on the linkage itself.

There is very little resistance to wipers in rainy conditions because the water acts as a lubricant. Try to avoid using the wipers on a dry screen because this dramatically reduces the life of the wiper blade, and strains the motor - as does using the wipers to clear settled snow of the screen (don't do it!).

Good point, can't fit 26" but prob a 24" to even it out a bit.

Agree about running dry & snow

Shouldn't be a problem - we fitted 24" wipers on our Gazelle helicopters - they were good for 190mph...
