Yep, had repairs done on several vehicles including Motorhome, usually through insurance, repairs don't cost but windscreens do.

Wouldn’t wait too long incase the chip becomes a crack then it’s window replacement

Had two done, both almost invisible repairs and no further issues and the insurers covered the cost. I would get any chip done asap, particularly in winter.

Had 2 repairs and a new windscreen fitted in the last 3 years, all through insurance. The repairs were free but I had to pay £100.00 excess for the replacement screen.
As others have mentioned get the repair done ASAP. Last year at Applecross I had a chipped screen which developed into a crack the following day. The crack extended by at least 10mm daily but I decided to just wait till I got home for the repair.

Get it done asap before grit gets in. Many insurers will allow you to get repairs done foc through the appropriate Winscreen company. If not, you can buy chip repair kits from Autofactors for about £15. I used one on My Alfa for a chip like yours (the car didn't have windscreen cover) and it lasted while we had the car (5 years). I thaw out my screens on frost mornings with hot water so the repair kits certainly work well.

Check what your max screen cost is cause a new a class screen is prob around £2500 my mates chathago was nearly £4000 luckily he had unlimited screen cover but have heard some policies only go up to £1000

DIY kits available on eBay done a couple of chips on mine always carry one
Had a chip while away which became a crack by the time I got home they aren,t noticable after repair

If you do end up doing your own don't put to much pressure on windscreen while doing the job a chip soon turns into a crack. This was the kit I used had to fill once more at the end to fill repair

Ebay Repair kit and the way its done Repair Video

Had a chip last year a week before going to France for a month. It was in the same place as the OP photo shows. It was a Hymer a class. I checked with an mot station and they said they would pass a repaired chip in that area. I phoned insurance and there was no talk of repair, they immediately booked a replacement. The screen had to come from Belgium. Auto glass replaced it with no problems, needed 2 people to do it so needed a little more organising than usual but they did it two days before we went away. A good clean and tidy replacement, £70 cost to me

Just checked insurance i pay First £70 in the case of repair. £100 excess in the case of replacement and no limit to the cost of new one checked my old policy with my last van and it had a 2k limit. They say doesn’t effect NC discount and will not effect future premiums. I’ll hold my breath on that one. Got someone from auto glass coming out to have a look tomorrow.

I've had my Hymer windscreen repaired twice now by Autoglass.Contrary to what has been said a repair does not count as a claim on the insurance, you also don't have to pay any excess(I didn't).There are strict criteria about whether the chip can be repaired or not,it depends where the damage is and how big it is.Have a look at this short video..................Windscreen Repair - Vehicle Windshield Repairs | Autoglass(R) UK

On both occasions the damage on mine was very near the allowable limit and Autoglass wanted to replace the windscreen, quite unsurprising as there is a lot more profit in it for them.I stuck to my guns and disputed their measurements, both times getting a supervisor involved but they did eventually repair the windscreen.

Cheers Gordon insurance company sending guy from auto glass tomorrow. Reading the posts back repair doesn’t seem so bad and on some of the videos actually looks great. See what he says tomorrow think the glass company would prefer to replace more dosh for them insurance would rather repair cheaper for them
But I don’t give a toss about them if repair can be done and not noticed I’d prefer that too them ripping screen out don’t know what else gets damaged or disturbed in The proses so gona push him to repair it first if not pleased it could always pick another chip up somewhere. Thanks for all the advice guys it was all good and positive stuff cheers wully

Your quite right as it’s a bonded screen and has to be cut out with like cheese wire then glued back in. Had two in trucks had to get taken back out as they had left some gaps and the wind noise was unbearable

Our insurance is due for renewal so checking our policy .... unlimited windscreen cover but panoramic windscreens are not covered......

. Very good post

I had a repair done on my last car, was first I had ever had and wasn't impressed I had to have it rather than a replacement. Once it had been done though I changed my mind completely. It wasn't invisible but was not easily noticeable, if you didn't know it was there you wouldn't spot if for a while if you know what I mean. Reading what I am typing it sounds worse than it was, you didn't really notice it and it certainly wasn't annoying like when you get a little chip.

I am all for things that help keep insurance costs down (so long as fit for purpose) and these repairs are a good thing in my book :)
