I don’t know how things will be after all this, but does anyone have a view about wether attitudes will have changed towards wild campers.
Personally if there’s much antagonism I‘ll just use cl/cs sites, but perhaps the bad publicity in recent times will just be forgotten when things get back to some sort of normal.

I think it'll be a long time before this is over and we are welcome anywhere other than licenced stop overs as I can't see anyone welcoming strangers into their community's for a long time if there's any chance we'd be virus carriers so we all need that vaccine

Although the world has changed dramatically and will continue to do so, I also think that people do tend to have short memories.

I think everyone will be so relieved when we get to the point of even the slightest lifting of lockdown that there will be a relaxation of some of the "tension" for everyone, hopefully it will be across the board.

I'm not worrying about it. As someone else pointed out on this forum - don't ask me to remember where! - wild camping in your van is actually a very good way to self-isolate, just not during full lockdown cos it gets people's backs up - as does escaping to your second home, or to your caravan, or driving to a scenic location for exercise, or sunbathing in the park(!) etc. etc. (just add whatever extra-curricular outdoor activity to suit yourself)
😝 😂 😉

So if they're going to hate campers, people must also be going to hate walkers, cyclists, sunbathers and everybody else who is visiting an area for 'tourist' or 'holiday' purposes. Remember the fuss the media made about the hoards that descended in Wales the day before lockdown? Not swamped with camper vans either, unless my memory is impaired. Just mile after mile of parked cars, walkers, joggers and cyclists!

We need to keep perspective on this and not get too anal, guys ;):)

Bill, one thing is for sure the industry/pastime we have enjoyed will go through a period of re calibration I can see a lot of dealers folding , prices may become unstable for awhile, the wild park ups largely unaffected.

I think even when things get back to normalise it could be a good 18 months before we have a true picture

Who knows, gut feeling is it will be just like everything else, a mixture of everything, some places more welcoming, some people less. Depends how many bills need paying I suppose.
I agree, some will some won't...

The irony is that the true wild campers pose less chance of spreading the infection than those using communal areas (campsites in any form).

We have also discussed this (I'm sure we all will have), and even when the lockdown does start to get lifted we won't be rushing out to go to campsites or indeed into any particularly crowded areas.

Because we live on a little island with just shops we tend to do the "kiddy in a toy store stuff" when we get down south and buy all manner of goodies at Asda, Morrisons and the Tesco Extras (more range than our local Tesco in Kirkwall). I have a serious browse round the big hardware stores like B&Q, Wickes, MacGregors in Inverness etc, Marlene likes to have a mooch round B&M and maybe Ikea. And, of course we have take aways, Kentucky, Maccy's etc. Weeee, like I said kiddies in a toy store.

However....

We reckon, when we can we will venture over to Orkney Mainland, we will visit our daughter, do a shop in Tesco and Lidl (it will be nice to restock on cheaper booze, I'll do the shopping Marlene will stay in the van) and perhaps spend a night or maybe even two on Orkney mainland. May even have a Fish & Chip supper!

Bit later, maybe another slightly longer trip to Orkney Mainland and maybe Marlene will venture out of the van.

This way we maintain a but of isolation as, although Orkney has had some cases, it is less that the rest of the UK.

Quite a bit later we will make the jump to Scotland Mainland but crucially we will stock up the van in Orkney, wild camp in the remoter areas of the Highlands and skip our usual visit to all the big stores.

In truth I can't see us doing our usual "spree" until next year.

Which country is that for Ireland.?

Annie, where did this actually come from? Other than it being on FB, cannot find any confirmation on any other source? As Boris not made his announcement yet.......looks fairly reasonable, but like somebody's had a guess? Thought if it was a government " leak" it would be elsewhere pretty quickly?

GAA, soccer, 5km-20km reference would point to Ireland.

This looks rather like the Irish Roadmap - thought ours was going to be announced on Sunday, haven't seen anything on a UK Government site

Up norf our shops or some are open and so are builders yards, some never closed,my local one only closed for one week,as a rule many just did not bother with restrictions and no one bothered to police it esp in republican zones where police are not welcome or go.

There are different types of WC. I reckon remote WC in rural almost empty parts of the country won’t be a problem. But towns and villages may be difficult for a while. Islands pose problems with communities feeling remote from the rest of us.
Things were getting difficult before all of this, and I don‘t see anything positive coming from this. Attitudes towards us are engrained, with narrow minded views being the norm in many places. Look at St Andrews, they make provision for hundreds of cars every day, yet the ban overnight parking for a few Motorhomes who would only be using otherwise empty car parks. Why is it folk are blinkered to the hundreds of cars parked in towns and villages yet react strangely at the site of a few Motorhomes. It’s ok saying use campsites and CLS but where’s the spontaneity in that, and try getting into these places at short notice. Also many places have neither. And if we are reduced to campsites, why did we all fork out so much money for Motorhomes, when we could have bought caravans at half the price.

Go knows what will result from this, but unless we get together on this then things are looking gloomy in my honest opinion.

That looks very much like a cut and paste of the Irish governments road map.

Just putting this out there, schools phase 5 , if the lock down restriction are eased through the other phases kids will need to be looked after if people start to go back to work, who will look after the kids until the summer holidays start?
