We have been camper vanners for a number of years, my first was a Murvi in the early eighties, scary?
We visited the small beach side car park at Kingsbarns in Fife, to walk the dog and have a cuppa at the resident catering trailer. The owner pays to be here to sell coffee, toasties, etc. The car park, though small is free and the toilets are maintained though locked at early evening.
My concern is when we parked up mid afternoon there were eight motorhomes of varying lengths and yes could all just be there for the afternoon. However when we were leaving about 2030hrs, there were 17 converted vans, motorhomes and camper vans, also six tents and several open fires already alight.
This is all in and around a small free car park with picnic tables and clear concise signage, stating no caravans or camping in or around this car park.
For those who have been here it is a reasonably small car park and as yet not height restriction barriers.
How long do you think it will accessible to us all if this sort of inconsiderate behaviour continues.
The fires were even on the grass no consideration to the numerous children who hope to play on these public facilities in the days to come.
If a number of our members feel this is acceptable and monopolising these maintained facilities in this inconsiderate and selfish behaviour then it may well be us who need to distance ourselves.
I fully appreciate the convenience of these facilities throughout the country but I also feel we have an obligation not to abuse and destroy the facilities for all others. There are many local people and visitors who wish to visit these beach car parks and not be confronted by a horde ignorant , loud and destructive campervanners. There were three or four expensive motorhomes, not just tree huggers.
I did not see any W signs but then I was so disgusted by the open fires and campers we left earlier than planned.
If any of our members would care to comment, condone or sympathise with this type of behaviour please let me know.
We cannot and will not be a part of this type of all too frequent behaviour, by campervanners and the motor home fraternity.
