Hi WILD BUNCH?

HAS ANYBODY GOT THE COURAGE TO OGANIZE A WILD CAMP WEEKEND RALLY

now that could be good

First we should poll members for an area

Then a month

would this be a wild gathering

coastal or country

possibilities are endless

Sounds good in theory but dont think there would be much support from the members on here, prob get 1/2 the bedford club thou :D

Not a bad idea ,BUTsomewhere, depending on numbers, would have to be booked. Is it then wildcamping?

YES GOOD IDEA I like your attitude, I think to properly "wild" camp you have to disregard a few " no overnight parking" signs and , realise that sometimes you will be inevitably on "someones" property on these huge sprawling estates , forestry areas and church owned estates which make up our land. It is our land as much as it is theirs or anyone elses. This land is our birthright on this planet. :) Take ownership and Respect it! I park up regardless of whos name is on the land, sometimes you have to be prepared to move at all hours of day or night, but usually you are ok if you play it smart (be quiet, dont light fires etc) or draw attention .

I know 3 places- all in scotland which could accomodate about 10 vans for a night
so we could do one night in each..

Im not going down that track in the wet again, in fact think this van is to low and would get stuck

Wild camping is tolerated because we travel alone not sure too many people would welcome a group !

although several vans parking up together is possibly going to cause more interest it would be worth it. i can also think of a few scottish spots that would be wild and wonderful. a fire is essential and therefor no chance of being quite . countryside or beach is fine as long as there is a good supply of fire wood . hope it gets of the ground

Scottish new year

Well friends I am thinking way ahead.
Every year we go up to Biggar for the new year, we arrive in Biggar about 7pm the day befor new years eve. We stay 2 nites the second is spent dancing in the street around a big bonfire. The Locals are great and the local bobby is marvelous keeping an eye out for us. Friends joined us last year and at 6 pm we moved onto the coop car park. As they don't open newyears day we caused no problem as we were gone by midday.
JUST TYPE "BIGGAR" IN YOUR SEARCH ENGINE

My thoughts on meets is to not really organise them but to just say where you going like above and others can join.

other possible venues

pickering steam rally
Tram sunday Fleetwood great parking at Bispham

Cant say its a good idea to arrange a wild-camp-get-together. People will think they are being invaded. Give a dog a bad name and it will stick etc. Groups who wild camp are called 'Diddicoys' (these are freeloading traders who rip off the public purse and deposit filth everywhere,,,, and not to be confused with Gypses. A true wild camper arrives shortly before dusk and departs shortly after dawn whithout trace

Don't think anyone was saying meet up and decend on somewhere in one go. We have stopped at a place and it has filled with campers. What is wrong with a few friends meeting up and chatting. Take scarebrough the carpark fills rapidly with Motorhomes as soon as it becomes free after 8pm and then empties befor payment is required next morning. You don't see many if any tinkers gypseys or whatever in motorhomes they are all useually tuggers.

D'oh!

S'alright, I have thought about it now and have worked it out! Caravan owners! D'oh!

it seems sad that people feel a negative reaction would be the only result of a group campers coming together in a responsible manner. maybe people would be envious and run of and get themselves a van.we do need to get the message over that we cause no threat and clear up behind us , often leaving an area in a better state than it was origonally.
just read an article about a rv meet in america,175000 vans in Quartzite , Arizona. now that might get a few complaints.

well said irenerobby

but I agree that a large group would be unwelcome

another possible would be Dunoon.
the council there allow camping in the north end carpark and on the grass round it for tents for the games weekend [very soon]
always the last weekend in August.
we will be there again this year --6 years now

dunoon

i usually take in the cowal games . a billiant atmosphere created by loads of folk out for a good time. a great experience for anyone who,s never tried a scottish traditional games.
i've always stayed with friends due to the large amout of bagpipe players about, thousands , loads of tunes in the air.
so i'll look out for you roy. how do you know fellow "wilders" , instinct, smell of wood smoke in the hair or a thistle behind your ear?
