Wild Camping????

Hi Mark

Thank for the reply... Ive had a quick peek at those tents, They just seem like cheap n cheerfull festival tents. I know I can get those almost anywhere nowadays... the only thing thing that I saw ... was A DRAWCORD to close the tent up .

tyake no notice of him .get a truck .much better .
never mind david .ten out of ten for trying .
i might get a proper m,home one day . always had self builds since 1978.
some of us are poor you know . hee hee.

It seems us campers are not welcome at all, no matter how hard we try.

Even with an esate car to kip in... pmsl big time now.

This is really interesting as some of you will have read my thread about dismantling my current campervan to double up as a basic camper using tenting stuff while being able to use the same stuff to go tenting with our daughter who is at that age where going in the camper with Mum and Dad is not good. Reading this gives further food for thought. We've been up every alley with this since my post, but have agreed one thing - our long wheel based tranny is too good a base vehicle to get rid of whatever we decide - better the devil you know and all that.

I suspect it will be being gutted anyway, and we'll give basic a go + a few creature comforts a van allows over a tent. We've also almost agreed a design for refitting the interior to give everything we want, and can even source all parts on EBay for about £300 which is not too bad, especially as on a budget like ours it doesn't have to be done all at once.

One thing I love about the older vehicles (and those lucky enough to be able to have newer models the same) is we can look at our tranny, poor as we are, and think we own that! Not one bit of it is on HP being paid off over the next 10-15 years and never being used.

Who cares what it looks like or what it costs, if it does for you, it's perfect!

Wild camp with your caravan just the same as a motorhome! I've seen loads of people here over the years who have done this. The general advice when in a layby etc is to keep the caravan hitched up to the tow vehicle and nothing outside like steps or awnings. Hitched up you have EXACTLY the same status as a motorhome. I have even seen people who say they unhitch the caravan. Up to you, but if you do do that you will attract more attention and I would be much happier keeping it hitched if I was in your situation.

hi casper .why not build a teardrop. they arent hard to do .costs hardly anything . you spend alot buying a new one but i reckon a build can be cheap / had mine twenty years now . its about 30 yr old really . but could be the way for your daughter. we put bars on the widows at one time looked a bit like a big dog kennel from outside but worked for wilding .

But Surely, this constitutes a MOTOR HOME? A home in a Motor???

Pray explain... the definition of MOTOR HOME

I thought it was a MOTORISED LIVING SPACE.. mmmm

LOL, I think you lot want me to go on one now... and I can ...lol

Anyway back to the thread guys... I am trying to make my life easier within my leisure activity... including wild camping...Of which I WAS becoming to feel welcome, not so much now... lol

Hi Guys some of you have met me... lol
I have a CARAVAN plus a selection of tents from 3 to 8 berth.

Wild camping is not practicle with a caravan, but it would be with my estate car, combined with an annex or drive away awning. Or do I need to get myself a van as well...

I am looking at using the car as a sleeping pod... with an annex as a cooking/ washing and general living area... so now over to you pros.. would this be a viable option to wild camping ?

anywoo taking all this on board if a landy tent was turned 90degrees so it opened fore and aft, which is what i would do,and a hatch was cut through from estate to tent then you have a vehicle with collapsable living accommodation that when erected has no part of the tent bit touching the ground ,this is a combo of home and motor that i would designate a MOTORHOME

to be honest theres alot on here that think they have a motor home but havent . any with a garage and carry bikes tools sports equipment in it really have a living van . they even have the wrong mot etc . but we dont go on about it too much.
plus they are all only converted builders pick ups with tarted up bodies put on . some even get done in the factory . ha ha .
they are all self builds its just some pay others to selfbuild for them hee hee.
hi rebel .so what is my mini artic ?

hi .my roof tent opened front to back .you could climb ladders at the front or get up the back. but like an elevator roof tends to not be stealth .
but have wilded with caravans for years ./ still do with the artic . cant spend good beer money on camp sorry prison camps .ha ha .

A very biast quote my son! amongst some most recent ones I may add... Its not my intention to change MY life stye to suit others who are more fortunate than others... but to join in the the leisure activity of camping, I had SEVERE DEALINGS with the HYMER CLUB in Lincolnshire so i am aware of your problems, make NO MISTAKE about that...

however I did like the comment your wife made Re;- The last time in a Quechha... is that when money was short, or was that with the HYMER sorry the motor home.

this is just short of fascinating, definitions of motors, another one of those things i never thought i'd need to think about!when i was doing it on a combo i called it 'the bike',moved up to a van,i called it 'the van',had a couple of single deckers, called them'the bus' . never used the words motorhome or campervan, lot of syllables there, though. so my defintion of 'home' is where you have a veg garden, never seen that in a motor,so motorhome is a misnomer to me

YEP, its so funny that people wanna put others down, for whatever the reason, even though they try thier hardest to make freinds with them.

think of it as taking the mickey not as putting anyone down . every one on here is a good friend really . better as friends not as enemies.
we are allowed to take mickey . go on sell the estate car get a van . no a truck . overland earthcruiser 4x4 camper.wmv - YouTube
therer wild camping motor homes at their best.
could be wales or even a m,home show this summer.ha ha .

Now, I could fancy one of those!

Currently thinking about a 'camping trailer' with some off-road capability to tow behind the pickup - doubt I could run to one of these though!

Be thick skinned, Rebel Camper :) Mostly it is just banter and things don't come out on text the way people mean them some of the time.

The answer to your original post is here in the thread, you can use your caravan similar to a motorhome, and your tents can be used in places the vehicles can't go. Like the moors and hills in Scotland for example where wild camping with a tent for a night actually has some legal status, unlike wild camping with motorhomes and caravans which has become "tolerated" rather than having any formal permissions.

Although it says wildcamping for motorhomes on the forum title, we are happy to accept tenters and caravanners and discuss or own experiences with them, as many of us have had those bits of kit in the past and some of us still use them too!

hi. many build on the sankey trailer .you should get to a lanrover show . loads there . going through it here with another mate do we build him a trailer or get a disco and fit a demount . he already as overtent and caravan but fancies a ozzy style off road caravan .
must say my tear made around maroc only broke its chassis three times hee hee img027.jpg
had to make a new chassis when i returned , but still have it . these pics were in 2000 in maroc . img042.jpgimg043.jpg
if you look carefully you can see us on the last pic .to the right starting to go down . another part way down .
poor trailer was 18 yrs old then.

Yes, I know what you mean, they do seem like cheap festival tents. I still can't believe how good they are for the money, mine has only leaked once, had to go and sleep in car, but on the same night everyones tent leaked, including Oz tent and a Hannibal roof tent. In fact I think the only thing that stood up that night was a Vango Force 10.

I have loaned mine to friends and it has been folded up wrongly, still in one piece though.
An Oz tent will brake before these do.
