wild camping with dog in Galloway

Kimbowbill, tie Henry to your towing point/tow bar.

As soon as I opened up the pic of Henry, Chloe (my 2 year old daughter) sad awwwwwwww cute :)

I know that I don't need to remind anyone....... but if you're in the habit of tying your dog to your van, ALWAYS make sure that you untie it before you set off again! (It's always worth walking around the van before you set off anyway, to check all doors are secure and nothing is left behind)

I remember reading a news story about a man who set off from a motorway services, forgetting that he'd tied his dog to the rear bumper. :(

Yeah good point Scampa, we was in scotland last year, driving merrily along and this dude was flashing and peeping his horn at me beckoning me to pull over, soon as i found a spot i pull over, he came bombing out of his car, ran up to my window, he was frantic, "youve lost you dogs, your dogs, where's your dogs", he was nearly in tears, the dogs where fine but i had left the leads tied to tow bar :dance::dance: bless him, i let him take a peek at the dogs, just to reassure him, this was pre Henry days BTW, lol,

But imagine if...

thats so funny, how sweet of him to be so concerned though, but just imagine if you had......???? I would never forgive myself!! I will definitely take that on board and check around van

Heres my lovely Mia...if i can work out how to upload it!

awwww she's so beautiful, great pic.

Yes i thought it was sweet of him too, made us giggle, bless xx

Aww thanks, she is a lovely dog, really looking forward to our trip, just setting off now - some might say foolhardy given the snow! But we are seeing it as an adventure! Will report back, xx

yeah, plz keep us updated, good thing about snow in scotland is they are allways well prepared, roads are allways clear, we were there 2009, in deep deep snow, no problems at all, enjoy

Thanks, GREAT spot

Galloway forest follow road right to the end ,bruces stone, very quiet ,no traffic, our dog wants to go back this year////

We stopped here on first night of first wild camping trip, and after getting lost up ugly logging roads we finally arrived here and couldn't quite believe our luck - wasn't expecting to be by right by a lake with gorgeous views all around. We loved it and so did dog, and had the whole place to ourselved. Thanks so much for suggesting it

What a great trip! Thanks so much to all

I am totally hooked now on wild camping, we had an amazing time, ended up in beautiful places - best was on beach in Mull of Galloway which was just stunning and no-one else in sight just sea, rocks cliffs, birds....I lost count of how many times I looked out of van windows and said "Wow, look where we are, isn't it amazing!" Beautiful cliff walks in all directions, absolutely stunning This is the site .....and Mia after running freely all day!

The database was just brilliant. Thats how we found this place and it made everyting so much easier to know that we could easily navigate to a place to stop -we just drove where fancied then looked for a nearby POI in the satnav. Can't wait for next trip now. Thanks do much for everyones help. As it turned out we found that everywhere we stopped it was completeluy safe for dogs as no roads nearby or other vehicles so didn't need to use screw, or tie her to back of van and risk further empty lead scares! I guess thats an advantage of Scotland. and it might not be so easy in the UK. I looked for sites near me but all the ones i checked out on Googe Earth were laybys, which would be so much more restricitve for her.
