Can anyone advise me on wild camping spots in Scotland? I am taking my campervan in June and would like any information I can get. I've heard there may be some problems, so need to gather as much info as I can.

Happy Camping

Hi there.Depends where you want to go.There are plenty of opertunities for wild camping.Scotland covers a large area. The further north you go the possabilitys are more plentyfull. Some of the southern parts have been hight barriered off because of the tinkers.
You can still usually get in somewhere within reason.Sorry this is a wee bit vague but without knowing what area you will be traveling in its a bit difficult to help more.
Best of luck.

Hi and welcome.

It`s well worth becoming a Full Member and that way you`ll have access to all the Wild Camping POI`s.

It will soon pay for itself after the first couple of Free Nights and the rest of the year is then a bonus.

A lot depends on the size of your van.

The Highlands / Skye are good, I've never had a problem there. The rule seems to be if you see somewhere nice, rack up there. Most lay-bys will have a camper of some description overnighting in them in the summer.

The Scottish Forestry Commission frown on overnighting and a lot of their picnic areas / parking etc will have signs up. That said I spent a few days pitched up on Glen Affric last year (stunning scenery), there were a few tents pitched up in the woods near the Loch, I asked a few people about the no camping signs and they all said they'd not seen a Ranger all week, the pay and display meters were all covered up too. No one bothered us while we were there.
Everywhere else we went we just found a suitable and picturesque stopping spot near a Lochside or down some very narrow unclassified road and spent the night there with no problems at all. (Don't whatever you do stop for the night in one of the passing places on the narrow roads)

Hi! I am also a "newbie" and planning a campervan tour through Scotland soon. I had a question regarding becoming a full member and the POI lists. I am more than happy to contribute to such a great community of travelers and free-spirits, but I'm wondering just how many wild camping spots are listed for Scotland? I don't need an actual figure, but are there many? Are some off-the-beaten-path sites and not just lay-byes?

I may very well join anyhow- just thought I'd ask beforehand. Thanks ever so much! :)
