Hi all
We are due to head upto fort William,Scotland in October

Is anybody aware of any wild camping spots around fort William ?
Hoping to stop off and do abit of sea fishing along our travels

We are travelling from cheshire and although we know of a few good spots along the way nr Dumfries and Loch Lomond, new places are also greatly appreciated x

When in Fort Bill we always wild-camp at the head of Glen Nevis (N56°46.644 W005°00.046) at the road end. However there are a couple of wooden bridges near the top with a GVW of 3,500Kg so I wouldn't recommend it if your 'van is much heavier than this.

Re Loch Lomond, there are several good spots in laybyes on either side of the road which we always use - sorry no co-ordinates, but you can't miss them. The first, going North is on the left immediately opposite Luss - there is a little road rising up to the layby which is above the road overlooking the loch (and the C&CC site at Luss). There is another two good ones on the left further up the road but better approached when coming South.

As for Dumfries area, there are several really good laybyes on the A75 between Dumfries and Castle Douglas - for example, N54.97044° W003.90169°, or N55.02439° W003.84466°. These are well set-back from the road (they're on the old road, as was, before the route was straightened).

Oh, and apologies for the different formats for the co-ordinates but I couldn't be bothered to change them all into the same format. However, you should be able to input them all into your satnav without any problems if you follow your manufacturer's instructions (mine's a Garmin).

HTH.
