Same in our village all sewerage via buckets went directly into the sea or the 2 rivers leading to the beach several houses which backed onto the rivers did it direct. No one ever swam in the sea

Same in our Cornish village. Pipes only went out about 20 yards, completely exposed on low tides. Seagulls would hang about waiting for choice titbits!!

What I,ve always wondered about is when every house emptied their bucket in the sea Why did they wait until it was dark so no one could see them
