Wild Camping Emergency Kit

Tinned Haggis if in Scotland as I have never managed to trap or shoot a real live one.

mouse trap. if you wild camp properly the chances are you will at some time get a stowaway.always bothers me as there is so much fuss about pet passports whats the penalty for importing a mouse.or even a whole family of mice. before long our mice will be made redundant and forign mice will be stealing all the best cheese and teaching our mice to drink red wine etc.

Wild camping POI off here!!! and preferably a laptop with internet access so you can put them all into google earth and have a look before going to the next spot. This will also allow you to come on here and search or ask for places to stop.

A spare wallet with fake money and dummy cards, so if someone tries to mug you wave the wallet at them, throw it and run in opposite direction.
When they find it, you will be long gone and they will be empty handed (if you didn't like the wallet in the first place).

Those little round led lights, you know the ones that take 3 AAA batteries, they are amazing, perfic' stand by and power saver.

Emergency kit

It depends what sort of emergency kit ,your talking about,if its general needed stuff to 'wildcamp' and if you have the room,or a genuine emergency kit ?

Here's some stuff,some already stated.
Good first aid kit, containing extra items like antisceptic/cleaning,mozzie detterent, burn creams, scissors.
A mobile phone with chargers...laptop ?
Jump leads,tow rope,fitted elec winch ?jump start,spare bulbs,belts,plugs,fuel filter,fuel can,OIL,clutch cable,maybe pads/shoes ?(but for a foreign tour)
The needed regulated, must take break down items, warning triangle etc.
Emergency tyre repair squirt stuff, several fire extinguishers in different known places (under bonnet),in cab etc.
Wind up,torch/radio,a seperate light source ,be it battery or gas lantern.
A water jack, fold up one will do,also try solar shower bag,but not emergency just cleanliness :)
Snow chains?(compulsory when travelling in winter in some countries) old carpet ?(for under wheels in grass/sand)
5 tonne proper jack,not your crappy scissor jacks,some tools,a good socket set,or if your a Lady,a friend who's a mechanic :)
Spare glasses (if you need to see/read)
Swiss army knife,to fight off bears
Johnies, handy for all sorts, especially if your caught out and invited to a party.........for balloon tricks !
Logic, understanding,a sense of humour and patience.:)

This is my Outback Australia kit - April til October (November to March is not an option for me due to high heat in remote areas which can kill quickly).

First Aid kit suitable for a bit more than minor cuts and stings - pain killers - eyewash - elasticated bandages - cling film (from the kitchen supplies). I've come across about three road accidents in fairly remote areas over the last 30 years and used my kits a couple of times. 14 additional days supplies of medication (diabetic). A first aid course is a good idea before going really remote.

Breakdown/bogged/stuck spares - tow rope, Tirfor winch, 4 waffle boards, mud chains, triangles, dayglo vests, can of puncture sealer, additional spare wheel, 12V tyre pump, wood blocks for jack, folding shovel (bury the spare wheels to use as anchors for the winch in sand).

Vehicle spares - plastic metal epoxy to fill holes (use coins to fill bigger holes in a sump or diff), 5 litres engine oil, 500ml of brake fluid, 2 brake hose clamps (to isolate a brake line), spare globes, fuel filters, assorted nuts, bolts and self tappers, about 2m of fencing wire (very handy to fix all sorts of problems from a broken throttle linkage to replacing a lost bolt), wire ties, wire crimps, super glue for windscreen stone chips, duct tape, fuses for vehicle and camper circuits, vehicle repair manual, WD40.

Toolkit with full range of spanners, sockets, screwdrivers to suit the vehicle - its a Merc so I dont bother with any Imperial spanners.

2 x 10 litre diesel jerry cans - gives me another 200kms range driving slowly - about 800kms in total.

20 litres of drinking water with "Emergency Use Only" sticker on the bottles. A pack of energy bars. Two x 5litre Camelbacks.

Sat phone and GPS that shows Long/Lat.

When we were planning to drive across Russia and Monglia a few years ago we planned to take an EPIRB as well.

First Aid

Take at least one tube of Super Glue.If unfortunate to suffer a deep cut, clean area, press sides of cut together, apply Super Glue and no need to go to hospital. This is a proven method used by a number of surfers and army personnel. If it's good enough for them it's good enough for me.:):):)

Ratchet strap - can be fixxed round Fiat front door pulls for extra security, also used to tie up a broken exhaust system that kept digging in the road, would also help repair a cycle rack if part of it ever broke.

If travelling abroad you WILL need warning triangle, hi-vis vest, bulb kit, spare glasses if you're a wearer, I also carry fire ext', first aid kit, can of tyre inflator/sealer if only to get off the motorway or to a safer area, tow rope, photocopy of ALL documents plus originals kept in another area of van, E11 card, AA type membership and most of the other stuff already mentioned!

Hand held sat nav

Compass decent map and hand held sat nav if leaving the vehicle for a long walk

12v tyre pump. Tesco have a nice compact unit for around £13.
It will also inflate air beds etc.

Worthwhile tip.
My dog was attacked a couple of years ago, late on a Saturday and miles from a vet. I was able to close a wound with superglue and and it healed with no problems.

A small Primus type pressure stove(and know how to use it!),this will run on diesel although it will blacken the pans.
I took this on my trips to Egypt and Mongolia and found it very useful, take a big bags to put the sooty pans in for cleaning when back in relative civilisation.

emergency kit

I take about 6mtrs of 2.5 cable and some of those blue crimp connectors, if you have something fail you can always wire up a temp feed to run direct...I know you should use a fuse etc etc etc but when ya stuck... :D:D

A few very long cable ties, these helped me recently when my starter motor coil decided to break its bolt, i tied two cable ties round it and away I went 500 miles later (and another pay check came in) home and replaced the starter motor...simples!:D:D
