Wild Camping Emergency Kit.

I know we all carry a few extra bits around with us in case of emergencies. What I would like to do is make a list for members new to wild camping so that they can make up their own kit. If possible could you state the reason why you would include the item and only put one item in each post.

Think on the basis of all year round camping, so include snow / ice and extreme heat.

I would be nice to give members a head start here based on the combined experience of our membership.

I will start with a simple one:

You should carry a spare torch, this should only be used for emergencies and not be the general use torch you use from day to day. Try and either get a wind up torch or one with a very long battery life. I would also suggest investing in an LED version.

most important a good quality first aid box
midge repelant
snow shovel plastic for winter
a small tool kit
if wilding in winter months warm clothing

Duct Tape (The real stuff - heat resistant, super sticky, waterproof, woven backing - not the shiny silver fake from the pound store).

A can of that aerosol spray plaster as it works on sealing big wounds.

A couple of rolls of the stretchy self adhesive bandage as it is really good.

A small wind up radio in case you’re battery is flat and there are severe whether warnings being issued.

A 20 litre plastic water container with a tap can stand next to the sink and can be used for kettles, drinks etc. It allows you at least one more day between refils of the onboard tank and it can be used for filling the main tank if you cant get a hose to a tap in a toilet or where ever.

a water can to fill your water tank with if you cant use a hose.

Mobile phone and both mains and fag lighter chargers, and make sure there's plenty of credit on it!!!

If you can't fix it you can call a man who can! :D

Two mobile phones, each on a different network.

Call it a lesson learned when I got into trouble earlier this year!

Please explain your choices

As I requested in the first post can you please explain your choices and something may not be obvious to new campers.
