just thought i'd add to this as we stopped over by loch lomond on the way to skye last weekend - we found a lovely little layby type place right on the shores, there was a few other vans around but not enough to feel crowded... about 10pm the poloice showed up and i think we all thought we were going to get moved on but they were just checking everything was ok, and had no problem with us stopping over, we had a good chat with the policman about vw's and motorbikes, he was showing off his 2.8 turbo vw police cruiser, and he give us a few hints for places on skye to stop at too... so it seems stop overs at loch lomond have the green light!
