Wild but scared

hi vipper . cornish lorry drivers do it as well. we know it makes sense.

The very first time Mrs Vipper drove our Carioca we met a large milk lorry on a single track country lane, with no passing spaces big enough for a long way.

The driver of the lorry couldn't have been nicer. Jumped out of the cab, explained how we were going to pass, then inched slowly through it. Stopping to get out and hurl abuse at the impatient people who were trying to push through behind us and blocking the space he wanted to move into.

When I am in that situation, I remember that I am retired and do not do anything in a rush now. It must be very frustrating for other people but hey, who gives a s**t. :D

So, I would get out, turn the gas on and put the kettle on while the wife took the dogs for a walk. And all done while giving the car driver a great big friendly smile.

We bought our first motorhome a Winnebago Le Sharo, which we are very proud of about seven months ago. We consider ourselves to be careful, considerate road users but it seems that ordinary car drivers dont like us very much. We have had several remarks such as "You cant drive that down here!" (on our way to a public car-park in Matlock) "Thats a large vehicle for a small lane" and encountered quiet a few oncoming cars who were unwilling to let us pass. Monday this week having rare full day out we decided to head to the East coast. Leaving a parking area to go home we encountered two people of pensionable age driving towards us down a narrow lane. Our side was a river, theirs a grass bank, not much room but they kept coming. We pulled slowly over, but they still kept coming. We drove onto the verge but they slipped down a gear and pressed on. As I shrieked, "Theyre going to hit us!" we gradually slid to a forty-five degree angle, one front wheel off the ground. They proceeded to sit in the car park we had just vacated while we slowly and hardly daring to breathe got out and wondered if our beloved Winni was about to topple into the river. After a mile hike into a nearby village my husband found an understanding truck driver who hitched a tow line up and pulled us back onto the road.. This is what we consider WILD camping, but dont want to repeat it very often.

Hi there, some people are idiots,i drove HGV for many years and you always get the twat in the small car who expect you to do all the work to get past them.My advice would be to stop as close as you can to the nearside of the road (safely) and pick up the news paper or your A TO Z,they normaly get the message and manouver round you, most people are accomadating though, cheers Shawbags.
