Wigan Stopover

Hi Tony,

Try Dover Lock Inn, Abram, Lancashire, WN2 5XX. about 2 miles from wigan centre.

It's along the Leeds Liverpool canal and has a large carpark.

They will probably let you stay over if you buy a drink or 2.

Directly opposite on the Wigan side of the canal bridge is a turning area that also may suit. It's a while since I have been there but worth checking out.

Cheers

Bill

Hi tony, i live in leigh (3 or 4 miles from dover lock inn) and could call in there and ask if you like? we are new to MH ing so don't know of any spots to camp yet as we are still sorting out for our 1st trip out (still waiting for the DVLA to re-classify it as PLG and tax it as the previous owners had it registered as a 'disabled' vehicle) i did however do a trial camp (with my dog) last saturday night on the driveway!!!

hey, there's a thought... if you just want a 'stayover' spot for the night i could maybe squeeze you on my driveway if your MH isn't too big?

let me know if you want me to ask around:)

what about the car park of aldi in leigh, it's right by the canal with a pub next to the car park, seems to be loads of space there.
you as a local could provide a bit more information.

being new to all this i am a bit surprised you would suggest to park in a town centre right next door to a busy pub? and within 100yds of Barbarella's nightclub:rolleyes:

Aldi's car park is NOT somewhere i would want to leave my car at night, it is surrounded by pubs that are open till early morning:eek: so you can imagine it getting a bit rowdy at chucking out time. The pub next to it on the canal bank is called the Waterside http://www.pub-explorer.com/lancs/pub/watersideinnleigh.htm) (and is usually quite busy and a nice establishment for food etc. the stretch of road that Aldi fronts has about 11 pubs/bars in approx 400yds so you can only imagine what goes on when the drinks ben drunk but the car park IS at the rear so might be OK, I really don't know:confused:

Maybe its because i live here?

Hi Tony,
Take a look on the canal bank near the JJB stadium. From Jnc 27 M6 take the B5206 towards Shevington (Born and Bred) at first mini roundabout turn left, follow road towards Wigan. At Woodhouse Lane traffic lights turn right towards the JJB stadium, immediately on left is a place that fishermen use to park up on the canal bank.

Another spot, if not wanting to go into town is at Appley Bridge on the canal bank, 2mins to pub. From jnc 27 M6 North bound turn left towards Parbold, then after Wrightington Hospital at X rds turn left towards Appley Bridge.Just over the canal bridge turn left onto canal bank car park.

If it's full go back up the hill and park in the station approach. Lots of cars in this area during the week park/ride. Pub at station.

Hope this helps.

Happy Camping:)

Hi Tony, do you need any further info? what do you specifically want to do? Night out on the town, sites, footie or rugby, yes we have a PREMIERSHIP football team and a SUPER LEAGUE rugby team! Oh and a Pier!!

Lots of places to stop on the outskirts of town for walking etc.

Happy Camping:)
