Why do some people have a generator ?

all my mates are normal . i think many on here arent . they even use prison camps . ha ha .
you must come away with us one year you will understand there are different types of normal .ha ha .
i know many that carry oxy/accet as well . and have all sorts of toys to play with .

Abnormal, Subnormal but on here I think its mainly Paranormal. :)

I think the OP may not be planing spending 3 months bike racing in the Sahara but I would love to. Its a date! :) But I.m not bringing Mig, Tig and Oxy. May bring David as I think he is in need of cheering up.

some you will have seen on jeds vids . the blue rocks . its amazing where you can get an artic . ha ha .

its possibly the only place thats easily got too yet as wild as you want .
i can look at jeds vids and really smell the desert feel the sand in my mouth . its a fantastic feeling . but after a few weeks you just have to head to the sea . have a few days there then carry on adventure time . but back on topic . solar rules there its a fantastic feeling to have washing machines working off the sun . make ice cream and lollies and sit in the desert with cold beer cooled by a fridge powered by the sun . its like watching lost in space as a kid . at the time it was science fiction . now its reality .

Could not do our main sport of skiing without a generator when wilding, at -10 in the mountains the battery is used very quickly, often no sunshine or in the shade of a mountain. Never used it in the UK though the twin batteries are fine.

I have a generator ,to power the wifes hair drier and curling tongs, ANYTHING for a quite life !!pardon the pun !:lol-053:also they are not noisy ,the radio or cd player can drown them out .

Suggest you investigate new rubber door and window seals all-round.

as you know it even seems to get in the tooth paste tube .
its definately a special feeling being right out there though .
even better picking fossils and crystals. hard to imagine it was once under the sea .
brings solar into use a treat.
hope your having a good trip.
drive safe .

I am very new to all this and wondered why some people have a generator in their motorhomes ?
And not sure what the difference is between leisure batteries and a generator?

My wife got one directly after shopping at Anne Summers - don't know why tho:rolleyes:

Not many do and even fewer use them. :)

3 weeks ago we were on a busy aire in France when a German van decided to start a generator at around 2 pm. It was only a small Honda generator but the noise could be heard throughout the site. One by one neighbours came across to ask for the generator to be turned off. The owner would shout them down and ignore their request until eventually a French man came fom across the other side of the site and turned the generator off. There was huge applaud and clapping throughout the site. They never turned it on again and they left the next day to everyone's relief. They are not sociable things and not advisable for sites/aires

Hi Annyalla,

I have carried a Honda Generator for the last three years and only used it a couple of times, once at Goodwood when the battery was flat and i had run out of Gas,but you never know when you might need it to finish of a good madras curry that needs a bit extra cooking.

But there again why bother having friends if you can`t abuse them. :have fun:

There is nothing more annoying than when somebody sticks there generator downwind of their van & you get the noise droning on into your van. Even the so called quiet good quality ones are a nuisance. Some people seem to carry one for years hardly ever using it, in all my years (30+) there was only one occasion I was thankful somebody had a Genny. It was when my engine battery died & I was able to charge it enough to get to the garage, I now make sure I have breakdown cover.
With the cost of solar panels being reasonable I think the case for needing a generator for power less economical, if you really can't do without 240 volts & all the mod cons you need then maybe wild camping isn't for you & go on a campsite with a EHU.
