Just past me MoT today, with no warnings!

Quite interesting as I was in the van when he put the ramp up! I must have been 12' off the ground!

Wiggle the steering wheel, apply brakes, switch lights on/off, wipers, washers. I was certainly kept busy. Minor adjustment of the headlight settings (no charge) & move over to the passenger seat for mech to carry out the braking tests.

Great entertainment given that no problems were found. But I have trapped 3 mice in the van this week - how the **** do they get in? Damned if I can find any holes to the outside!

always a good feeling when the bus passes the mot,.
the step dad in law had rats in his car, wouldn't start one morning, got rac out and found rats nesting in air filter box and loads of wiring chewed thru.

I was told many years ago that mice only need a hole the size of a pencil to get through.

even though generally you know your van is pretty much ok it"s still stomach churning till you get the all clear.;)

Rats and mice will often be tempted by the warmth of an engine bay, especially as the nights get colder. From there, there's usually plenty of access for them into the cab/passenger compartment via the holes pre-cut for cables etc to pass through. Even when there's a tight rubber grommet fitted to seal the gap, they can easily chew their way through that. Rats and mice have an appetite for plastics, so they will often have a feast on cable insulation etc, causing electrical faults and sometimes fires!

I've had several problems in the past caused by rats and mice. One time they chewed through a few cables between the dashboard and bulkhead, serious enough for the engine not to run properly, but so well hidden that neither me or an AA man could find the fault!

At the first sign of them, I'll set traps inside, but also put poison at various places outside until the problem has gone. I think it was Viktor who mentioned that one of those electric sonic deterrents were pretty effective, but I haven't tried them myself. :)

Doh! I hadn't thoght about the engine/ cab access. Obvious innit!

I live well out in the sticks so rats, mice & squiggles are always a problem at this time of year. I have a classic car & a sailing dinghy too so lots of places for the little beggars to cause mayhem. Fudge, our Jill Russell is a complete watse of space tho. We thought that just the smell of her around would discourage vermin, but it seems they can run over her nose when she's asleep! :(

i bought a pack of 3 ready baited plastic traps by rentokil, brilliant ! filled every night till they went or died out,i set them every now and again just in case
