What amazes me is that so many people are willing to spend their (presumably) hard-earned cash on premium rate phone votes when all they are doing is helping to make cheap television and line the pockets of someone who is already a multi-millionaire. And when it is all over it won't make a blind bit of difference who wins because although their first record will automatically be the Christmas No1, their second will almost certainly sink without trace and they will be unceremoniously dumped by Cowell and co as they start the process all over again next year. STOP VOTING FOR ANYONE or else there will be nothing left to watch except "I'm strictly a celebrity big brother hoping to be an X-factor apprentice restauranteur." Rant over - pass the medicine and goodnight.

Precisely. Cowell troughs the cash, cocks 2 fingers at the general public, and then would you believe it, he starts up another gravy train charade show in the New Year called "Britains got talent" which is almost exactly the same

I say almost exactly because in the new show, 80% of the acts are budding vocalists, but they throw in the odd dance troup or trombonist just for a laugh :D

You get the wonderful option of ringing premium rate phone lines to vote, while the "judges" aka actors/scamsters get the choice of ditching who they want regardless by x-ing them off the show!

Is this the program Hughie Green used to be on.

No that was talent show, and I do believe the phone calls were not premium rate

Opportunity Knocks, Stars in their eyes, New Faces etc were all the same kind of show in the 70's and 80's but they didn't have the same kind of manipulation as the new shows, or the premium rate numbers. I think the vote was postal, and there was something called the "clapometer" (decibel meter) which recorded live audience reaction.

Hate to spoil the illusion but that was fixed too - the "clapometer" was operated by hand by a bloke at the back!

Well there's a thing!

I wonder if he actually tried to match the noise of the applause or if the young Simon Cowell was standing next to him telling how to play it to influence the public vote.

So why did they have to eat the Rat.

It's a hamster,according to Manuel.
