Who is looking forward to Christmas?

Christmas for us is being in 25º+ which I have been doing years. Cannot remember when was the last time I felt cold☺☺☺

i HATE xmas...everything about it. told my kids no such thing as father xmas, baby jesus and all that, went down bad at their schools.. but i told them no such thing as a tooth fairy either. i cant see the point lying to kids, it sets a bad influence (just like saying if the dog or rabbit dies, its gone to live with a uncle somewhere)

i never put a tree up, nothing, i send no cards etc etc. and fed up of all the begging charity ads on tv (esp the RSPCA who are sat on millions and millions...................yet aim the ads at the poor old pensioners)

spent the last couple of years alone, just with the dogs.........not saying i like that, i dont, but the comercialisation and lies to kids i cant stand. world peace etc yeah, just like they did in WW1 in the trenches, not whos got the most expensive games console or flashiest pair of trainers

but i spent xmas in dresden a few years back with the family of german ex 1. was a nice time, more family and er....nice feelings, german xmas markets, food and gluehwein, carols (although im a athiest). over here its a case of the whole family wants to get pished and arguments and fights start between eveyone.

The thing is Jesus wasn't born at Xmas anyway; evidence was he was born at Easter or in Autumn, and Xmas was tacked on to the pagan sun worshipping festival by the Romans to get more people into it. And like you, I don't like all the lies and the commercialism simply bolted on using a religious event which has dubious history as an excuse.

But whatever one believes, be it Christian, Pagan or something else, it's a good excuse for some time off work, a few beers, get away, see the family and some wildcamping. And that can't be bad from whichever direction you approach it :lol-053:

Looks like us Humbugs are in the majority here.....I'll be getting as far away from the rabid commercialisation as possible...Cape Wrath springs to mind.

And why? would anyone with the slightest bit of intelligence, pay to have their, conservatory/kitchen/double glazing, fitted in time for christmas when the half price sales will begin on boxing day!
I hate christmas!!!!!!!!!

And there was me thinking in the cases of conservatories, kitchens, or double glazing, they are always "half price" whatever time you buy them :raofl:

I quite like christmas. We do a three-year rotation.

One year we'll spend with my mum down in South Kent, just her, the cats & the TV, small dinner and some cheese etc, few pubs, and we sleep outside in the MH so we don't get woken up at stupid o'clock in the morning :raofl:

The next year we'll spend in Derbyshire with the other half's huge family, all sorts of presents to sort out, massive table groaning with food, untold beer, whole house chock full of people, then round to the other half of the family for the same again next day, (phew!)

Then every third year the two of us stay at home, order a massive curry on xmas eve and have that for the big day, just us and the laptops (don't have a tv) and the cats, and meeting mates down the pub, more often than not don't bother getting one another presents, unless we've both thought of something, but no pressure.

This year falls on a Curry year, woohoo! :king:

I like Christmas, I love being with my friends and family, sitting together having a family meal (which is something ive not done since living at home with my parents when I was a child)!
I love time off work to recharge and deciding to do nothing if i want for the day or going for a long walk with the dog in the winter sun (we do get some occasionally!)
I love all the daft gifts n games you get given, give me a Star Wars light sabre and i'll be Darth Vader for a day and i'm well away, lol.:fun:

I hate the commercialisation of the season, the toy adverts on the tv in October forcing kids to ask for things the parents can't afford! The shops stocking food in October knowing you will buy it in to save for xmas but be too tempted and eat it so have to buy more! :mad1:

Whatever you do, enjoy and have fun

Pretty much wrapped up in one Firefox! I'm not overkeen on the old Xmas as it is too OTT on the money making side of things, but the spirit of it certainly makes for good get together meetings with friends and family. I don't have children (A choice me and the wife made, not a choice made for us), so don't have the same feeling as those whom have families. I am not religious, thus the belief of Xmas doesn't bother me. However I love a good old fashioned "Knees Up" whenever the excuse of one arises. To be honest, I look forward to the New Year Parties, more that Xmas itself.
