which campsite? C&CC or CCC

I will not subscribe to the C.C. or C.& C.C. mafia, I'm of the age to have endured National Service & most english campsites remind me of army barracks with their rules & regulations, regimented rows etc.

Lol, when I read that I was about to warn you to watch out for a defensive reply from a certain member, but he got there before me!!

Not so fast next time please Northerner! :):)

Camping Clubs

Hi Teutone

We have been with the CC&C for a few years and are very happy with them, the insurance was a better price on our new van and I compare it every year. We have used them for Ferry crossings and the first few camp sites on our trip down south. Last year while traveling in Europe they were a great help after a robbery in Italy, a life line as we had lost passports and mobile's and had problems contacting Insurance and family. We had to return a month early because of the Passport problem's and found by ringing the CC&C at Calais we were able to get cheaper return Ferry tickets for the following day.We book a few with the club and also used Aires as we had no set route, just heading south and see what turns up, the way we like to travel. We still love Europe and can't wait for the next trip.

Regards Snowbirds.:fun:

getting a little bit confused. IF I need / want to stay on a camp site, which one would you recommend?

CC, C&CC, CCC or whatever?

Do I need to be a member of any caravan club or camping club? would prefer not to.
Can I just turn up with a call ahead?

Please enlighten me. All help appreciated.

I am a member of the cc, I haven't bothered with the CCC purely and simply because there isn't a need in my circumstances.....I dare say I would make the same statement had I elected to join the CCC rather than cc.

Both are organisations that employ people and simple statistics suggest you will get good eggs and bad ones.

I use the sites to launder dispose of waste recharge leisure battery on ehu if Iam spending a little time in a particular area.

I know! But it does make you wonder though why, when someone asks which of the two clubs he should consider joining, there's always a member who feels that he has to impose his virulent 'ant-site' views on the rest of us. Anyone who'd read the thread must realise that many forum members do mix sites and enjoy them, just as they enjoy wild camping. It is rather hilarious though when they talk about regimented rows and then tell us that they use aires! I use aires as well but I don't have any romantic notions about them. They're regimented rows that are great for an overnight stop and can be very nice or pretty awful!

I have to say though that this thread has cheered me up enormously. I'd considered not renewing my subscription because of the constant denigration of those of us who do use sites, by the rather vocal and virulent anti-sites brigade, but I now realise that many members are just like me. They love wild camping when it's really wild but are also happy to enjoy the convenience of a well-run and simple site, such as the CC or a French municipal. So you may be stuck with me a bit longer, or until I'm banned for arguing with you know who! ;)

On a visit to this year's Excel I noticed that one of the largest & most palatial stands belonged to one of the two clubs (I forget which) I used to be involved in exhibitions & realised that this cost many thousands of pounds, It's difficult to believe that this benefits members.
Last year at an outdoor show I met a lovely lady marshall who was not renewing her C&CC membership, she was staying at a site with some friends who had a child with special needs who, for some reason had to be fed at 1.00pm, on the last day they requested to stay the extra hour, but were refused, they had to be out by 12.00o/c although the site was only half full.
I don't wish to join either of the clubs, this is only my humble opinion & I don't wish to get involved in a slanging match, trading insults, there's enough of this on the site already.
By the way, when I mentioned regimented rows, it was "most English campsites" nothing to do with aires, Please get your facts right before complaining.

Er, it benefits the members because they use these stands to recruit more members and as a service to existing members who have queries and wish to meet the staff. At one I attended they had a rest area where members could have a sit down and get tea and biscuits. It's called offering service and some will understand that this is what good firms/organisations do. If they didn't attend the major shows and offer this service I've no doubt that they'd be labelled uncaring!

Hi

Just spotted your request and, of course, the answer is that it depends on your needs, desires etc but for what its worth these are my views:

We belong to the CC but reluctantly because we use CLs quite a lot (many of them are very good value; others not so) and you have to be a member to do so. We also use ferries quite a lot and you can get deals on those (but always check directly with the ferry company because the CC does not always give the best deal). However, we rarely use their main campsites for the simple reason that we can always find a private site nearby that charges less. The CC claims to be run for the benefit of members rather than profit but they consistently charge more than private businesses - it is difficult to see how they can justify that. Finally, DON'T use the CC Winter Escapes Brochure - I have yet to find a site from this brochure where the "deal" offered is better than just turning up at the site (in one case it was 30% cheaper to turn up at the site!).

Can't comment on the C&CC because I have never belonged but my sister-in-law is a member and they seem to offer genuine discounts for single occupancy and for older members, so this might be a better option if you fall into one or other of those categories.

Whatever your choice, happy travels.

We stayed at two sites in the UK last summer, both were CLs & although we are not members, we found if you paid cash there's no problem.
The owners of these sites are usually farmers etc. who need income & if they hav'nt been brainwashed by the clubs, they are more than happy to let you stay, & without paying extra.

Hi Northerner

Reel them in mate I love it, They take the bait every time," no not me I don't use camp sites".Well once when the wife needed a shower and of course when the dog had a dicky tummy.

Keep it up I love it Snowbirds.:banana::cool1::cool1::lol-049:

Well done - you have found a way to make me ask for a post to be removed!!!!! The quote you attribute to me was actually said by someone else - and I do not subscribe to the sentiment at all.

And why has this come up as a quote from spigot when it was actually a quote from Northerner? I'm confused - or is it all part of a dastardly plot........:)

I have absolutely no idea how this occurred and I have not doctored any posts. I responded to a post by spigot and didn't notice that your name appeared in the box. There is obviously a glitch somewhere.

Edited to say: It's doing it again!

Lol another entertaining thread....I joined the C&CC...why?....no idea...first one I came across I think.....if I need to use a campsite and if I can get a bit of discount because it happens to be C&CC great....but I just look at the Satnav and see which one is nearby and if it looks reasonable I go there...whether it be C&CC, CC, or independant lol...if it's a toss up to save £2.50 by driving another 10 mins further away...I ain't bothering. :p
