Where are we actually welcome

If you look on Search For Sites there are plenty of places we can stay across the UK, that is not in full commercial sites. These range from overnight stops with no services, to Aires, pub stops and tiny basic campsites.

We’re okay for now.
You miss my point. Whenever there is a council putting in restrictions there are always some saying " I will take my money where we are welcome." Meaning they are no longer going to go into that area. Even though there may well be the odd places that you can stay. Even small basic campsites are commercial that's why they are campsites. How many councils are there that make us welcome. Or not even welcome us but don't actively try to deter us one way or another. Very few.

Yep ....probably very few ...

Frankly though ,I'm less and less arsed about that these days ...

I'd rather stop on a small quiet site/Pub stop and have no mither,
than put up with nob heads banging on the van, beeping horns, snarky comments from locals, etc etc (though none of the above has ever happened to us ...barring 1 occasion of beeping horns)

"wild camping " is IMHO getting harder and harder due to popularity and spreading of locations ...AND the actions,of the, mouth breathing flat earthers

I'm away in the van to relax NOT get stressed .

That’s not my experience using SFS. I haven’t missed your point, I’ve never felt unwelcome in any area of the U.K. But that’s my experience, others will differ.

I think the massive upsurge in ownership in the last 4 years, with owners sold a ridiculous dream by the salesmen and the media, has helped kill truly wild camping as it was. But that doesn’t mean we’re not welcome in the other options available to us.

Over the years we’ve pretty much ignored the East Coast!
I went to Hull once 30 years ago which wasn’t a particularly pleasant experience and have avoided it since until last year when we did a bit of Lincolnshire

There’s a whole unexplored part of the country to do one day!

Hull is quite nice, I am not much for towns and city’s but I do like Hull. Nice folks and nice vibe. Wonderful golden sand beaches on much of the East Yorkshire cost as well, often quiet👍

I forgot, Hull fair starts on the 4th October, if you, kids, grandkids like a fair I believe it is one of the biggest in the U.K.. think it ends on the 10th but please check that

Lots of places in Donegal and no one gives a flying fart, & free with a cafe next door to old harbour.

I was always led to believe that the biggest was Goose Fair, Nottingham, Neil?

The Hoppings on the Town Moor in Newcastle is pretty big too, or certainly used to be.

Tbh I'd never heard of Hull Fair until you mentioned it.

Loughborough has always had a large annual fair every November Marie. I was never interested in going round in circles on the rides as a kid (I can do that on here now though!) :giggle:

I did like working on the stalls though and helping with the setting up and packing away - you could find a small fortune in lost change under the stalls and rides when it ended.

When I stayed at Cleethorpes it was on the advice of the receptionist at Autotrail.
She didn't fancy Hull at all .
Always thought afterwards that Hull must be a right tip

Depends how long ago, they changed a lot for city of culture a couple of years ago I think. As an anti people person even I like a wander round every now and then lol

" From Hull, Halifax and Hell, may The Lord preserve us "

From memory, that used to be the prayer for tinkers, travellers and heretics.
Evidently these places were somewhat short on welcoming strangers and brutal with it.
Nobody whipped us out of town, in Hull, but I've always avoided the other 2.
