Hi Everyone, I am at that point where i need to fit a new gas bottle into my van. I have a propex heater and water boiler with a stove and 3 way fridge. and was wondering what would be the best system to fit. A Safefill bottle and fill it from inside the gas cupboard which is inside the van or an gasit bottle and put a fill point on the outside of the van.
Has anyone had any problems with refilling the safefill bottle both systems will cost about the same to get started so really only factor is the performance.
Thanks a lot for your help

Gasit for me and an external fill point. Some will say an underslung tank, it all depends on your MH.

Have an internal as easily fitted. Never been questioned and filled up in multiple location. Have just re-read your posting and looked up the Safefill bottle and it looks like you need to disconnect and reconnect with every fill?????. A plumbed system is a winner all the way with the filler internal or external.

Edit Interesting to note that Morrisons are refill partners with Safefill.

Safefill without doubt.. As I found out speaking to a motorhome repair man the other day while he was fitting our new heater and doing a gas safe check on the van..
We were chatting about underslung vs Safefill and he mentioned the 10 year service/testing of them. It's easy to remove and send your bottles back one at a time hence not having to do without gas. Also most places don't service the underslung tanks and just tell you to replace them. (only repeating what he said) he will know more than me.
Most folk don't do that.
So if they needed to make a insurance claim and didn't have a receipt showing gas safe and proof of cylinders/tanks they could use that as a loop hole to not pay out in case of fire.. Although paperwork could of been in the van I spose, but the tanks are dated some how..
Now he might of given me wrong info I don't know, but im not gas safe registered so have taken him on what he said.
So that's one good reason that I like my Safefill even more now..

I have squeezed 2 x 11kg Gas-it in the locker.
The fill point is mounted in the locker.
In 5 years never refused .
But have not needed to try Morrisons.
An external fill point is better if it can be done...Too difficult on mine !

hi,,i had an old hymer and ours was a single gasit bottle so i converted it to a twin changeover..the filler was located in the side of the van so never had a problem anywhere..apart from leaving the filler cap on a forecourt somewhere and having to go on ebay to replace it. never seen gas it before so cant comment ...good luck

I looked at Safefill and the idea seemed great but I thought that if I was going to be stopped and questioned that it would be using the hem as opposed to having a filler mounted externally so I headed off to Autogas 2000 with the intention of purchasing two Gasit bottles but when I got there I ended up buying a single Alugas bottle mainly for the weight saving and added a second one last year when we went full time. I can fully recommend Autogas2000 if you go down the Gasit or underslung option.

Regards,
Del

I have just bought a gaslow bottle exterior fill kit - the only place i can fit filler is within gaslocker door which gaslow say you can do so gonna fit it above the 2nd 6kg bottle i removed from old van - i bought 1 new 11kg so gas filler should fit comfortably above the 6kg without causing problems if it is tight i will go with oppy's suggestion - then just get it gas safe checked - like others not going to open a door to fill just dont want hassle it can cause

Gas-it underslung tank for me.After 5 years still as good as when fitted.Gas bottle compartment space freed up for extra liesure battery etc.

I had the same problem with my new Pilote 696D - the side skirt under/near the gas locker isn't big enough to fit a standard Gaslow filler. My local(ish) dealer Knowe Park had a brainwave and sourced a small filler from Gaslow that's more commonly used on van conversions rather than coach builts. The slight disadvantage is that you always have to fit an adaptor to it (like you do with the European adaptors) even for filling in the UK, but it will go in the side skirt. Well that's the plan, it was about to be fitted when lockdown started. The small filler isn't on the Gaslow website but if you phone them up they know about it. Like you, I didn't really want to put the filler on the door, even though Gaslow assured me that the hose can cope with the flexing every time you open the door.

On my Pilote P650gj Autogas 2000 in Thirsk fitted my filler in the side of the actual steel tray the cylinders sit in. The tray sits Just below the aluminium side skirt and is more or less invisible from a distance unlike if it was fitted in the side skirt.

Think both gasit and autogas 2000 have more options than gaslow i'm happy with gaslow only reason i stick with them R67 standard whatever that really means i only use steel bottles and prefer yellow to red ( exchange propane bottle colour also a yellow exchange bottle around alta gas i think dont know what it holds though ) prices are similar personal choice in the end

Hmm, interesting, I'll have to go and have a look at that as an option. Thanks!
