What van would you build?

Now here is a van I fancy any offers only done 48km. Alf
Kind of thing you bloody dread seeing on the services at the Aire ... 15 minutes to empty the grey waste, 20 minutes to replenish the fresh water of n 00 litres, 1/2 an acre od sewage farm storage and then a gymnastics display of climbing up and down the rear door to access bedding, dirty laundry and gawd knows what else, before *finally* buggering off and giving those in the queue a chance to empty and refill. Moncofa and Tortosa seem to be stowed out with the bloody things.

Not a fan :ROFLMAO:

There's this lovely classic old school Mk1 Master always parked up a few blocks away.
Quite like the narrowish sliding doors, has them both sides. Would be a great option on new panel vans rather than the usual euro pallet + sized doors you get on new vans.

😂 Forgot the pic.

I would delete the side loading doors if I were buying a van to build, pointless IMHO, you still have four left.

Reminds me a little of the "Eribacar" ... Eriba Caravan fitted on top of a Renault Chassis Cab. Getting too old now (vans, not me) but would have liked one of those. Custom Motorhome* with a Pop Top before they became fashionable a few years ago

Talking Motorhome bodys, not VW Panel Van conversions.

I'm sure that they have a advantage David, but it escapes me.
Well, in my case, I took advantage in the following way:
  1. With the doors open, gives a really nice large window effect, far bigger than any window you could fit. Also great for cross-ventilation.
  2. The Kitchen unit was against the sliding door and I put a internal divider within the cupboard which let me have the fresh and waste water containers accessible to fill and empty by simply opening the door.
  3. With the door open, could use the kitchen worktop to have food setup to be able to get from outside
  4. With the door closed, it was no different to if there was no door (didn't attach anything to where a side would have been. In fact, the entire buildout had zero wall attachments - I only used factory floor fixings to bolt and clamp all furniture to)
  5. I chose to use the drivers side Sliding Door as my camper entry door rather than the passenger side. Saves walking around the van each time and that option would not be possible usually (except for the official VW Californias, where they built RHD Front Cab/Controls on a LHD Body to save redoing the camper interiors for a RHD shell).
I put awning rails on both sides of the van so I could have a Driveway type Kyham Sleeper on the side with the entry slider and a sun canopy on the side with the kitchen so could maximise the usable inside/outside living area.
As the saying goes, you camp inside a motorhome and outside a camper, so it was a good way to make the most of what was a small camper.

The little Eribacar on the Mk1 Trafic was a proper sweet van. No doubt well built and offering a fair amount in a little package.

Yes, was tempted to take the wheels and axle off an Eriba Puck Caravan and stick it on a flatbed before now but I don't really have the skills for that.

Plus the fact that Julie thought it another madcap idea!

I’ve a LWB master a couple of weeks away from completing rebuild I used AI told it what I wanted in terms of facilities and asked for the optimum layout best use of space but if I was to do another I fancy a low loader stealth van

Yes, I fitted a door and a curtain to protect it, in the end I took the curtain out and put a length of plastic bent to 25° at the bottom of the door to direct splashes into the tray.

We've had two Bessacar E745

Second best layout we've had, sadly had to sell both due to damp under the b/room shower floor.

You would end up with a twist in your neck in any seat trying to watch the tv where it is mounted.

Cant understand why folk want to use heavey toung and grove for ceilings, very light ply and cloth covering is best to keep weight down.

You can get very light tongue and groove Trev, although the Timber effect ceiling going in my van is quite heavy (10mm on 8mm felt) but well within my weight limits.

I don't mind cloth or carpet covering but some people just don't like it at all, each to their own.

Light ply rivet up and paint or stain.

Often thought about that too.

Not an Eriba, but same idea, just a bit over the top with the truck. Not that I'd turn it down. 😂
