What transport do you use with your camper?

Oh Yes!!!!!!!

Puts my little Speedfight to shame. Yours would suit my lardy arse better as well!

I have seen people on small electric scooters :D
Not got one myself, we walk or cycle

You might enjoy this one then, my steed for this summer a circa 68 - 72 Carlton racer.

I am currently trying to research its history, it is far from original.

I have owned it for 5 years and want summat that doesnt look anything like flash

Hi Channa,

Your bike would have been made at the Raleigh Cycles Special Products Division located at Worksop in Nottinghamshire.
It looks like it has the Reynolds 531 frame tubing and would have been assembled and brazed by hand to ensure perfect tube alignment, ( ie:- not made in a jig and welded by machine ).

I believe if you google Raleigh Special Products, you will find all the info you need and if you have the frame number you will be able to identify its year of manufacture.

My bike is a 1994 Raleigh Randonneur tourer from the same place. I've owned it from new and it even came with a signed photo of the chap who built it!

Indeed she was built in Worksop, IMHO in June somewhere between 1968 and 1972 because of the frame number.

Worksop build is guranteed but drilling it down to a year is difficiult ..the frame no is WH0000314 which W = worksop Carlton factory and the h is june production from what I can glean. from 73 onwards the frame no would be
wh3xxxxx the 3 denoting the year. prior 68 the serial numbers were different!!..

You can tell I am on a mission to work out what she is.

You are spot on she has reynolds 531 c butted frame which my research tells me was a competitiion frame.the c designation

She has a shimano rear block ( trial block at that so I am told from a bloke in the know) Mavic rims and Cinelli handlebars.

Someone at sometime has invested a bit of effort and money to make her summat like in her day.

I bought her a few years back to keep fit winter evenings when I couldnt mountain bike.

I darent tell you what I paid but little more than a weekly bus ticket.

I have dragged her out of storage, I feel a quit the fags moment and become fitter moment coming on.

I am told she is a Carlton Clubman on a specialist forum but at the moment that is no more than opinion.

No anoraks in those days, proper bike capes we had then, complete with strings to tie it to the bike to stop it flapping around. Were'nt half a bugger to get out of when you fell off!!!

Has a kid could never afford a Carlton :) got one in the end...my first job was a Saturday lad With Marks and Spencer, early morning start and living out in the sticks no buses...so I had a Puch 12 speed racer, ( crap compared to the Carlton ) And a great big orange cape for when it was raining.

Other than the feet getting a bit damp, dry as a bone :);)

happy days

I had a raleigh tour of britain racer and used to go out with the sunday social section of our local cycling club in Nottingham. Then in the week I would ride to college. I must have regularly clocked over 150 miles a week.

Then I got my car license....... :D

Can't ride it at the moment as I've sent the seat and all the leather parts to a specialist up York to be recovered in brown and black leather with tooling to the seat and back rests. also just imported from USA solid chrome front wheel and polished discs, getting it ready for the rally season.
John.

Her number will cost you Randy, but here is something to exite trikerfella;
