What size inverter?

I have tried these, rated at 4A, and they have limited life, when used on the current laptop started smoking after a short time.

Inverter draws 6.31A when charging the laptop (laptop off) so with the laptop on will be a bit more.
6.31 Amps? That seems a hell of a lot. I think thats about 1500 watts!

Most laptops have 45-90 watt chargers.

I know when I run Mrs Ds Honor Laptop through the Bestek invertor it draws about 20 watts. My Lenovo laptop through a dedicated 12v charger is less, about 12 watts.

What on earth would anyone want an iron for these days, pressed trousers and shirts went out with nelsons eye, next you lot will be telling me tall hats are in fashion again. 😂
What do you mean hats are out of fashion?

No one told me this

I searched high and low for gas powered microwaves and hairdryers but couldn`t find them anywhere so went down the inverter route.

Being able to use the microwave is very convenient and the wife being able to use the hairdryer has improved my chances of a longer life massively :)
Gas powered microwave??? Eh?
I once saw an advert for a mirowave bed, apparently you could get 8 hours sleep in just 20 mins

Yes Rob, and wearing a flat cap, which some bloody northern Irish knob says is out of fashion 😡😉

If I have to drink canned beer, OSH is one of my favourites Kev. I always carry a case or two in the van.

Nice hat.

6.31A @ 12.7v is 80.1W which as you say is within laptop charger spec.

We use an inverter for the Romoska 400w version. Uses 40A from the battery in an hour. The inverter is 600w pure sine wave. Larger inverter will just use more power itself. Better using gas for a kettle although it is slower. When we find an EHU we use a small induction hob rather than our gas. Kettle boils very quickly on 2kw.

Yes but for a laptop to be drawing anywhere near that its battery must be pretty flat and its processor and hard drive going flat out.

If you keep them fully charged a modern laptop with an SSD drive and say i5 processor just being used for say watching a downloaded film or surfing the web would draw hardly anything. As said mine ticks over around 12watts or so in that state.
