What points of interest would you want.

As a self contained Campervanner, ... (LWB VW T5). So have e small ' vehicle footprint', lowish vehicle weight, low vehicle 'visability' when parked up. Short (3 to 4 day nominal) duration between disposal of waste and top up with fresh water.

Can cope with ... Narrow lanes, tight turn ins, narrow access, small overnight 'WILD' spots,

Do prefer ... Wild and Remote spots, and, Small campsites, Grass sites with basic facilities.

Have a need for ... Drinking water top up, Portapotti empty points.

Don't need ... Hardstanding, don't need or want to pay for provision of electrical or water hook up. Don't need to manoeuvre over grey / black waste disposal points.

So ... As a Campervanner, My preferences are slightly different from my larger (vehicle that is) motorhomer friends with their, higher visability, higher all up weights, lower manoeuvrability, larger width / length, longer durations between top ups and empties.

Can the Wild camping POI's database be enhanced to :-

1) Include with each 'Wild Camp' POI a simple icon system better describing each POI, so both Campervanner and Motorhomer users unable to access Google Street View can identify whether the spot is likely to suit them and their individual requirements, once a system is set up, then us users can address in our notification of new POI's.

2) (I personally would appreciate) A listing of basic campsites with (standard campsite icon system ) and members listing of key features, rough idea of overnight prices, (appreciate prices are constantly changing), are they amenable to single night stays.

A Very Happy Christmas All,

Gas suppliers
If its LPG for refillable systems you can download the app for free" FillLPG beta". This is updated daily with the price per ltr. The only downside is trawling thru to get your nearest location as you cannot refine.

A photo or photos of locations where there is no google street view, possibly posted by members who have visited the POI, and obviously some means of adding a photo

Everything mentioned is already covered, if you want campsites under £10 join a Club, I have POI's for C&CC and the CC CL and CS sites, supermarkets, pubs, historic houses etc you can find the POI's for these, the POI's I would like to see are MOT places, Service Centres, Bodywork Repair Shops, Accessory Suppliers but only the ones used and recommended by our community not the POI's readily available that lists every one

Mine comes up on a map around my location. Doesn't yours? LPG CNG Finder....

for me I think the bottled gas stockists calor /flogas etc useful as is launderettes for those on extended trips.. Restaurants /pubs other than overnight stops which we have the what is good is too subjective.

Campsites for whatever reason, i am stunned on a wildcamping forum. CC and CCC offer a boat load of rural cl type stops ..a lot offering ehu opportunity to dump grey and black i am not sure clogging the poi list with info readily available best use of resources.

my thoughts

Really I am interested in POI's that you would find useful as a motorhomer, there is not much point duplicating content from trip advisor.

I agree with Admin

No point in duplicating other info.
You would also be in danger of overstretching your team !

Fish and Chips is good however one member provided a link for this.

Perhaps a simple page of links to such sites would be best
eg Fuel LPG prices across Europe - myLPG.eu

I think I'm with the majority - I have thousands upon thousands of POIs in my mapping app (Osmand), which come from the enormous Open Street Map POI database, so I can easily find the nearest [enter your preferred POI here].

The wildcamping POIs are a unique, invaluable and indispensable resource but, as others have said, some sort of additional information would be handy such as a user rating for when I don't have access to Streetview. The Restricted Access category is great - my van isn't huge (7m, though wider than many), so I simply ignore any of the Restricted Access POIs as it saves me fretting about how I am going to get in / out / turn around etc.

Lay-bys, for example, come in a huge variety - some are set well back off the road, with picnic areas, quiet location, stunning views etc., others are merely a pull-in by the side of the road with traffic hurtling past. Yes, both may be Rural Lay-bys and both may be suitable for an overnight stop, but I know which I'd prefer....

One of the reasons I like the Motorhome Parkings (Camper Contact) app for Stellplatz / Aires etc., on the continent, is that it carries photos, and makes it very easy for you to add photos whilst visiting a particular Aire (so I try and make a point of doing so). Having some idea of what a place looks like before rocking up there can save any number of fruitless visits. You can take photos using the app itself and, if you don't currently have an Internet connection, the app stores it and uploads it the next time you do. Painless and easy.

Think I'm also with the majority here, no need to clog up the site with stuff that's readily available elsewhere, ie. campsites, why these on a wild camping forum?

What would be handy would be the ability to post pics & comments on POIs like on some continental wild camping forums.

What would be handy if on the POI s it is indicated whether the spot is suitable for a larger van.

Whats with the 'I think I'm in the majority', don't know how anyone can actually say that, or feel a need to say that, until there has been a reckoning?

I do know I don't want to have a load of apps with thousands upon thousands of POIs in each!

I personally, as I can't speak for anyone else, don't have or want to be looking at loads of devices to find were to stay for the night as there is always another lay-by not too far away - a simple sat-nav works for me!

I have recently used the ' All the aires of France' only to find that some of the photos in the book look nothing like the place in the flesh.

As Tezza33 noted 'whatever extra POIs added they should only the ones used and recommended by our community not the POI's readily available that lists'

I thought Phil [Admin] asked what we wanted and not what we don't want?

Quote.
What Points Of Interest would you want?

After reading the chip shop thread I was wondering what types of POI locations would be of benefit to our community?

Any thoughts?

Almost everything being asked for is already on Satnavs or can be added as an App. I think we are OK as we are.

I notice none of the Heathens on here have mentioned Churches. :raofl:

They are on already .. Look under TAPS ..

..

Yes I know there are lots of ways to find campsites for pitstops but so many if the cheap sites you look on line they are beautiful in the pictures when you get there you wonder where the pics were actually taken as it bears no resemblance to where you have arrived.
If we collated a list of recommended sites at say under £10 that members have actually used surely this would be useful to some on here.
