Need to renew my insurance and hopefully get the premium down, just had a renewal quote from Clubcare that doesn't leave me impressed.

I need to get some bodywork repairs done after a summer of vandalism and someone reversing into me then driving away whilst I walked the dog.

I know the excess with Clubcare will be a lot more than cash repairs so thought I'd look around before I renew.

Thanks

Aib

Had the cheapest quotes from AIB for the last few years; only beaten this year by a company promising to beat renewal quote.
Can't comment on their claims procedure as I didn't make a claim.

Just be careful with your No Claims Bonus if you use AIB or any other company that does not require NCB for your policy quote.

I use Adrian Flux they get the best quotes and from what i have seen on other threads on here cheaper than most

If you are wanting the repairs done on insurance then get them done before you change but you might want to check how a claim or claims will affect any no claims bonus that you might have. We are with Caravan Guard who have handled 2 glass claims quickly and efficiently

Be careful ... if you change insurer you will not be able, legitimately, to claim for damage that occurred prior to the insurer providing cover.

I can't give any positive advice, but please be very careful if considering Caravan and Motorhome club insurance. They use Devitts, and the were the worst brokers I've ever encountered in over 40 years of insuring vehicles.

shop around

my Flux renewal quote was £350ish,[aviva]i rang them to stop the automatic continuation and said i was going to shop around, they said fine but when i get a quote to let them see what they could do.a pal had recommended a local independent broker who got it down to £250.[aviva],
i got back to flux and they, after the person i was talking to said they would check with their manager, said they could match the quote,
i then said that as the price was the same i would go with the local broker as he is in the high street,
Then the flux person said that they would check with their manager again[likely story],they came back with a quote for £240 inc legal cover.[aviva]
the policy/cover was the same throughout.

I already have , because of the excess and my no claims being protected for only one claim per policy term (1 year) I thought I may as well take the opportunity to get a few quotes. I have already been quoted for the work as a cash job for only £150 over the current excess.

ERS have stated they will treat each bit of damage as a separate claim , therefore incurring three times the excess , I will just get the work done for cash when I can afford it , keep all my no claims etc and maybe get a better premium..........

I have always used comfort and caravan guard .both about the same price including recovery .Down side with Comfort is you can only accumulate 3 years NCD .Not Good if you change company.

I wasnt asked for my NCB; which I found strange- Could you expand a little on this please?

There is no way in those circumstances that I would have stayed with Flux, you are effectively employing them to get you insurance at the best price not only did they fail to do this they almost certainly did get an offer of insurance at the price they eventually offered to you but declined to pass it on choosing instead to maximise their profit at your expense

Flux is not a charitable organisation they are not going to lose £110 just to keep your custom so the could have offered you the lower price right at the start and chose not to, after that how could you ever trust them?

£10 is neither here nor there these days - not even 2 gallons of diesel - I would have gone with the small local guy

Just had Caravan guard on the phone to confirm my details haven't changed as my renewal is next month.
Pleasantly surprised that their quote was £258.00 including uk breakdown cover versus £294.00 last year.
I will do the usual google search and get quotes but unless it's at least £20.00 cheaper than caravan guard I will stay with them as it's not worth the arse on to change unless the saving is substantial. I very much doubt I will get a better quote imho as I didn't last year.
Quote was on a 2014 Renault Base vehicle Devon Conversions Tempest.

i do believe it's all to do with their commissions on the policies, the guy/gal on the phone gets their cut.the boss gets his cut, shareholders want dividends etc. what gets my goat is the automatic renewal is always a bit higher and will always go down if you cancel it.sometimes life is too short to go through all the questions etc,one thing about flux is that when they first started they would do self builds policies that other brokers would not do.i did try AIB as they have a members discount etc BUT they could not quote for my postcode!!.21 years here, many motorcycles+vans, that was the first time it has ever happened, with the motorbike i am c.nash one year and bennets the next.recovery the same, rac one year,aa the next as both have the sharp practice of 'introductory first year discounts' which i have no shame in using and abusing....,
all the best,
Jan

Yes I think it is a good policy to stay with the same company to build up some loyalty if it can be done economically . Also when comparing quotes please also check cover especially if planning to use your vehicle on extensive foreign trips as limits do vary ?

We use Comfort £305 including European break down which is RAC. Needed it when we broke down in France this year.
Our van is a Tag Axle Hymer

Personally I agree with Malagaoth and would have binned Adrian Flux if they were magically able to cut over £100 off the premium just by you asking. I do not trust these companies that say "if someone else betters our quote, call us back to match" as it means they know they are charging more than they have to - if Company B beats Companies A price for the same service, then I don't go back to Company A for a better deal as they cannot be trusted IMO.

But as far as 'introductory first year discounts' go, spot on :) Any company that rewards a new customer over an existing customer deserves no loyalty, and I have also tended to rotate the AA and RAC on a annual basis.

Ncb

I wasnt asked for my NCB; which I found strange- Could you expand a little on this please?

Some motorhome insurance companies/brokers do not use the NCB system.
I believe it is due to low mileage & the vehicle often being an occasional use vehicle; like classic cars etc. You are therefore able to use your NCB on your main vehicle & not be stung with extra high start premiums when you begin insuring a secondary (not second) vehicle. As far as I know a person can only have one NCB.
That is the upside.

The downside is that if you don't actually have a primary vehicle which you are continuing to use your NCB on then your NCB will lapse if not used continuously (barring a varying short period).
If you are not using your NCB year by year then you need to keep a good record of it so when you need to use it again you can prove the amount you have accumulated yourself.
You are still then at the mercy of your new insurance company accepting your proven NCB combined with a letter (usually provided) from your previous insurer stating you had made no claims.

I am no expert in this; it is just my recent experience. Which briefly is:
AIB insured me for the previous two years.
I offered my NCB of umpteen years when joining but they didn't require it.
I left AIB this year.
The new insurance company asked for proof of my umpteen years NCB.
I provided that plus a letter from AIB stating I had 2 years with them without a claim but they would not reference my previous NCB amount.
The new insurance company stated they would give me three years NCB as a new customer without any recent claims. That still leaves me umpteen years short (it's in the region of 21 years).
This year it was not a problem as the quote I received had to be £25 lower than my renewal (due to their promotional offer).
Next year I will have a fight on my hands to get my full NCB recognised; it may not be possible.

I went with Adrian Flux , after adding keys , monthly payments % etc worked out £ 125 cheaper than Club Care .........the cover was from AXA.

Aviva (LV) was better but no monthly option.
