What happened to the WC site it all went off ?

Cool stuff

Must get hot in the van with all those brains working...sure there isn't a network of Phils in there? Does he/they need a cooling fan...is that what all the batteries are for?

The server I rent has the same power as about 10 high spec home PC's, each of the Xeon cores is more powerful than the core in a normal PC. The 64GB 8 channel memory costs £1200 on its own. The retail price of the CPU's is nearly £1000 each.

Well, that explains it then.:rolleyes2:

Up until this server I have always built my own servers then shipped them to the datacentres for installation.

The thing is that the parts for servers are expensive and they need replacing every 2 years. This current server would cost £5800 if it was pre built or about £4000 for the parts to build it.

So although the hosting costs thousands of pounds per year it does include the hardware upgrades, off site backups, and DDOS protection. The server is on a 1 GBs connection and will allow simultaneous downloads at 500MBs.

And if your next question is "do we really need this?" then the answer is yes. Google now indexes this website about every 5 minutes and other search engines do the same several times per day. This means we are number 1 in the search engines and get lots of organic traffic. We have had times in the summer where the server has been running at 85% load and that is with twin 8 core Xeon server CPU's

I thought it would be something simple :lol-049:

Just to top it of a p-ss you lot of ,the worlds fastest computors all run linux, the fastest one being in china.

This is better in that the hosting bear the responsibility for ensuring it all works.
Ok so Phil pays a bit more on a regular basis but does not have the hassle of routine maintenance and so LUMPY expenditure and "Time swallowing Tasks".
Also they manage the backups !

i will have two of the cpu and decent mother board plus 64 gig of memory that should do it nicely plus two graphic card please oh iforgot will need ahumongus power suply to run the graphics plus someoen to pay the leccy billy as it wil need some cooling

think hippy might understand it all..........

I have a nice VRTX at work to play with :)

For a lot of people now it’s getting so they need not know what flavour of software they run on, with so much accessed via apps or browsers now.

I happily run Linux and Windows at work but OSX or iOS outside work
