first camper

first camper morris minor van ex. gpo with leather bus seat from scrappy in back for three kids (under 5 yrs old)
cot base and mattress x 2 hung from sides of van with wire strapping.
plus two man tent.
primus stove to cook mince and tatties in car park then carry to blackpool beach to re-heat to amazement of fellow sunbathers.

We started out in the 70's with a Boy Scout Tent that you laced up the door. We then upgraded through various tents up to a caravans. We ummed and arred about swapping to a motorhome. We went to shows and looked at dealers but could never find a layout that we both liked, so arguments ensued. We decided that we would buy a new caravan and went to Cranhams to see what they had. As we came out of a Swift, the sun shone on a small Frankia A Class. We had a look and loved it - both of us. We took friends to have a look and we discovered that there were 2 or 3 badly sealed holes in the roof so the insides was sodden. Very disappointingly we decided not to buy.

We decided to look for an A Class and discard the caravan upgrade. In November 2010 we mosied into Brownhills at Newark and saw 2 Hymers. We looked at them both and decided on the second one a B544 SL. We love it, we have a large lounge for entertaining, a reasonable shower & toilet. The only disappointment is the kitchen area which is a bit small, but I try to prepare food before going away and as we have a large freezer, we manage.
