What couldn’t you live without?

I got into a discussion with a friend of mine about things we couldn’t do without.

I’m in a self build but it’s a completely piecemeal construction. So my first few weeks in the van I basically had a bed, a toilet and a camping stove. I went to the gym for showers as I was going there anyway.

After that I added insulation and flooring, then I built a pullout sofa bed for more comfort, added walls to make a wet room for showering and hanging clothes, bought batteries, split charger, fridge, etc. I’ll also add solar panels after winter is over and probably add an extra battery too and I’m sure there’s a million other things I could add.

Now my van is actually nice and comfortable, more like a home really. Just a home that I have to ration water in, which is something we should all be doing anyway in my opinion.

I know I’m on the extreme end of not needing much, but I wondered what everyone else had in their homes that they simply couldn’t live without? Maybe you recently bought something that’s completely changed how you’re living?

W.C. Couldn't be without one particularly with so many public loo's being closed, however, I am guessing you mean the non-standard item?
Mine is a good book.
I watch very little t.v. preferring a well written thriller or pretty much anything by Dean Koontz or Stephen Leather.

For me, the singularly most important items in my self built Renault Master are my constant travelling companions, namely my 3 gorgeous Spaniels!

Oh and apart from them there is the thermally brilliant spray foam insulation which honestly does keep us all as snug as a bug in a rug.

Good Morning Adam,
Hmmmmm 🤔.
While having my coffee & Looking around at what’s aboard I’m actually finding that After the obvious every day things aboard The Nest that although I could obviously live without, are however very important in making my lifestyle choice more comfortable & Pleasant I am struggling to find anything that I have in my minimalistic life that I could actually ‘Not live without’.... I would just adapt.
Maybe it would certainly make me question my life if I found that I no longer had The everyday Smile & Contentment felt that I get from choosing to live symbiotically with ‘The Nest’....
Then my cafeteria plunger & Copious amounts of Filter coffee & Donuts !.
Water Filter, Nesty my Multi-fuel Stove, Screwfix, Tesco, Credit card & maybe my even smartphone all have equal second.

Toilet goes without saying and the shower for me. I reckon the scooter for me is the most important asset I couldnt live without. My knees are knackered so I would be stuffed without it. I always have a musical instrument with me even if its just my cheap argos battered acoustic guitar. I currently have two guitars (electric and acoustic), a synth and a whole load of recording paraphernalia in the luton right now. :D All works off 12v an all!

Laptop. Could not live without that either.

Yeah

I need a guitar too, I’ve got a bog standard fender acoustic. Just something to fiddle around with. Unfortunately the insulation isn’t good enough to keep the singing inside the van....

I agree a toilet is essential, I’ve met people who have a bucket and a bottle..... not for me.

Toilet a must shower handy but not necessary as strip wash just as easy, dont need tv as we read books like other posters on here ,,water heater handy but we boil a kettle just as quick.obviously a comfortable bed as cant stand backache been there done that worn the tshirt when we used to have a trailer tent with micro thin mattresses,30 years ago, even though we have a proffesional conversion we could get by with a homebuild with just the necessaries

Toilet necessity, (composting so water free) shower we decided against as too much water, strip wash less water and showers available at campsite, family etc! I agree comfortable mattress, but think my double skillet is something I wouldn't want to do without although obviously could! So multi functional ...saved lots of space. Other than that I couldnt do without a couple of good big towels, used as spare blanket, cold evening shawl, dog mopped ( last resort!), folded as a cushion or extra pillow plus other functions I can't remember!

Toilet, Water heater / central heating, shower, tv, generator, fixed beds.
My days of ‘roughing it’ are a distant memory hence all the above. Spend as much time away in winter as summer so generator for me is a must have. Love my sport so tv and sky box another luxury I won’t travel without. Since changing recently back to a c class with fixed beds I must say i much prefer not having to make up beds.

Toaster for breakfast. I have a gadget that goes on the gas ring, or a leccy one for when I'm forced to have EHU. Same with the kettles, a pop up one for the gas and a dinky leccy one. Once I've had my coffee and toast I'm set for the day.
Ridge monkey is handy when cooking for one, can do most things in it.
