Western Motorhome Show

Thinking of going as we are still looking to buy another van, nearly 10 months since we sold our last one but been too busy to miss it. Problem is if we go we will have to borrow camping gear from our daughters, both of them have plenty of camping gear but will probably opt for one of their smaller tents as it will be easier to put up. Will see what the weather is going to be like before finally deciding, not keen on camping if its going to be pouring down all weekend. Haven't noticed before if there were was anybody camping in tents at these shows as we have always had a van.

For future reference, there is a huge tent area, must be in excess of 100 tents :scared:

Home early as the wife has had some very good orders come in from America for bible covers

Bought a few items including a D.G.I. filter at a good saving also found our dream van with our perfect layout and spec from Frankia

Just need to sell some of the kids inheritance and then i can afford it :scared:

I see the latest craze for Autotrail owners to get rid of the grey water is to attach a pipe to the outlet and to just run it under the centre of the van :mad2:

It was so obvious as each morning you could see a growing pile of bubbles under the vans :rolleyes2:

I inadvertently pulled out several of the pipes from under the vans and had them discharging the shitty water right under the step where they get out of the van :lol-049:

Get the camera out and shame the bahas ,let them see taking snaps,if and I doubt any W members would do such a thing number plate ,name and shame😡😡😡😡😡😡

I was wondering about this kind of thing a while back and the answers I got from motorhomers and caravaners on my own forum (a car one, not a camping one) was that most campsites (let alone fields used for festivals) don't provide any grey water discharge facilities and the normal practice is to empty onto the grass.
I was honestly very surprised about this, but found later on myself that when it comes down to it, often there is no choice (for example, I have a small 10l waste bottle from the sink and I needed to empty this twice last weekend at the festival I was at, and the only place was on the field where I was parked).

So in all seriousness and not in any defence of the "guilty" parties, what should they have done instead rather then their grey waste tank overflowing?

Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp have just walked past :scared:

That took me by surprise when I was there last year. I bumped into a white face Indian coming out of the toilets. Quite strange to begin with.

I do see your point Wooie but to be absolutely fair, there were no grey waste disposal points at all at the showground camping fields - just elsan - so people didn't have much option. I was surprised when I read this in the booket and went to the information point to ask what they recommended. I was told not to put grey waste in the elsan points... either take it home if poss, bucket it to the hedgerows if not or just let it go to water the ground, which was rock hard and desperate for a drink. I saw lots of people carting their wastemasters over to the hedges! :D If you wipe all the crocs with kitchen towel first to remove all food debris, as I do, the water stays fairly clear - or you can make a filter with grass in an old stocking. I cleaned my waste water tank recently too, so it's fresh as a daisy.

Those of you who are as ancient as me will remember the drought in 1976 and being encouraged not to waste a drop of the bath or sink water.... it all got siphoned off into the garden. I still remember the "Save water - bath with a friend" stickers :lol-053:

I was pitched very close to the ATOC and on monday morning when several had gone you could see the piles of debris on the grass that had come out of the
waste tanks after the water had soaked into the ground.

Couple that to the heat we had over the weekend you could smell it, particularly as the breeze was drifting our way.

I agree, that's really nasty... I guess not everyone is as careful about keeping bits of food out of the washing up water :( I wonder if it's because they always use wastemasters and sites with all facilities, whereas we're more used to being careful about what we dump and where, if there aren't any facilities. Having said that, you should have seen the disgusting mess around the elsan point over in the pink parking area! Some people just shouldn't be allowed out until they've mastered some manners! By the way (just because I can't for the life of me work it out!), what does ATOC mean?

When it comes down to basics grey water is just that, it's water, detergent, soap and small particles of food debris - where is the harm? Wifey washed the dishes in the ladies toilet block so I let it go on the grass. The area around us already contained dried up animal waste which if wet would have made the area very smelly anyway. It's no worse than washing your car in the road. I expect that if it was discharged in the road some zealous official would probably report it as polluting the environment and it would lead to a court appearance.
Bd..

well roger who runs a campsite said take a carrier stab few holes in it if it doesnt have any alreadyfill with grass tie on to waste pipe that catches the grease and debris and the water will do the grass good

Forgot to mention that my ASDA £1.50 detachable spout water can was pinched sometime over sunday night / monday morning :mad2:

It was full of water and sat in the rear wheel arch out of harms way. I only ever used it to top up the header tank for the toilet flush.

Any old water went in it so hopefully the perpetrator will contract dysentery or some other suitably deadly disease
