Off to Loch Torridon in Aug. and looking for wildcamping spots on a sea loch, as we have a small boat. We are open to suggestions as have no definite destination but will be in the Shieldaig, Loch Carron, Applecross area as well as the Glenelg peninsula.Prefer off the beaten track so long as our 21 foot +motorbike on back motorhome can make the roads. Anyone know this area? Thanks.

Hi Christine,

There is a spot on the edge of the village of Shieldaig that we have used for many years. It looks out over Loch Torridon. It's very exposed as it is situated on exposed high ground and if windy can be a bit frightening at times.

In years gone by we have got in OK with a 8 metre A Class so you should not have any problems.

From the south on the A896 take the second sign for the village and just follow your nose. There's a water tap there and a public toilet at the bottom of the hill on the sea front. There's a box for donations there or was the last time we used the spot two years ago.

Have a look at the place it might not be suitable for you if you have to hump you boat up and down the hill.

We have never visited the place in August so don't know what it will be like.

We are doing a 5 week busman's tour of Scotland starting on the 30th July, up the west coast and down the east. If you see a silver Timberland with a large box on the back come and say hello.

Regards

Don

Hi Don. I had already sussed out the Shieldaig site, thanks. As you say, it may not be ideal fo the boat and if it's packed, it won't be our cup of tea. We like a little solitude at times. We'll keep our eyes open for you...
