Very nice heaters, but so are Eberspacher D2 / D4 and Mikuni MY30's, all very reliable , another worth considering is the Mikuni MV Airo ideal for the smaller van, this replaces the webasto airtop 2000 range

Me and friend fitted one too my motorhome best thing ever did in van fulltime ex fuel consumption can be noisy on startup but soon settles recomend cheers john

I have a webasto airtop c together with a calorifyer for water heating.Its a 5.2kw model and is for my coach,and i love it.
After 15 mins it leaves you feeling comfortable from being cold.Its all a novelty for me at the moment but i sadly get excited when i go into the coach to put the heating on

I had a Webasto fitted last nov I now think it was worth every penny. It has made the van so much pleasanter and more useable . I also smile when I can just turn the heating on. Far better than lighting the hob.
It took me over 12 months to bite the bullet and get it done, careful yorkshireman but that was just 12 months wasted. :cheers:

I have a 2nd hand one in my van, a 3.2kw lovely bit of kit. cost £100 and easy to fit,as I use a 2 litre tank behind the driver seat. it smoked a bit so I gave it a service and put a new burner pad in £27. surprisingly easy to service. gets the van up to 25 degrees in about an hour . the switch is within easy reach of the bed,of course !

We too are thinking of fitting a heater. We have no idea of which one but may have to get a second hand one as they are all just too pricey. :scared:

A nice cheap calor gas heater would work out a lot cheaper than fitting a webasto heating system (IMO), and are just as warm and toasty. ok, you have to keep an eye on the gas, but a 6kg should last awhile, and ya not folking out the 1k for the diesel heating.!
I had a gas fire in my other m/home, and now we to have a webasto in our panel van, i would go back to a gas fire in a heart beat given the chance.!

I got fed up of looking at second hand ones on ebay they wanted far too much for old units and breakers yards were the same. Mr Brown you did well. :bow:

when it was acting up a bit,i fitted a Morco heater ,same as but a lot lower than,a Truma . this also gets the van up to 25 degrees but not quite as quick. if anyone is looking for a cheap and reasonably efficient heating,then a carver ,morco or truma floor vented heater is well worth getting if you can find the room for one ! look at the prices ! Carver caravan calor gas butane heater | eBay we went through a severe winter in Wales with one of these-once you get the van up to temperature, you can turn it down to pilot for the night -toasty !

Why would you go back to gas when you always have diesel.
Webasto 2kw vs Propex 2kw plus fitting kits the webasto is approx £166 dearer but the webasto is £0.37 per hour . Propex £0,55 per hour paying £15 for 3.9kg propane bottle.
You pay your money and take your choice.

I have a Webasto Airtop 2000. One of the reasons I bought my cheapie campervan was cos it came with this fitted.
I decided to move it last xmas to the rear service area and out of the habitat area in a bit of a remodel, and decided to Decoke it as it wasnt firing up every time and seemed not as hot as it should get.
Like nbrown said... as long as the main pcb electrics are working the rest of it is pretty simple a blower fan and motor rear section connects to a large heatsink with an injector nozzle and a glow plug. The fuel dosing pump which pulses to inject the fuel is external. I decoked the gauze and gave it a blast with a
Propane torch to clean it, put it back together and it worked a treat. Similar performance to a decent fan heater, so it warms up our hitop LDV converted job in no time even though its only rated at 2kw. Great bit of kit.
Yes they can appear a bit noisy.... but some of this is I think down to positioning. Mine was installed under the sofa bed so right under your head if you were lying in bed, so you were right over the blower motor, and also the air intake and exhaust below the floor as well as the dosing pump. So not a good site even if it was easy to put it there IMO.
Mine now is out the back storage area behing an insulated partition wall, and in a chamber so it can still draw air from the habitat space through a wall vent and from the under sink cupboards in the galley and a space behind them and the sofa/bed where it used to be sited, then runs the air through the heater and blows it back into the hab area. This takes away some of the operating noise and esp once it slows the blower motor after the initial warm up its pretty quiet. Also the dosing pump can clunk audibly... I found this was due to the operation transmitting through the chassis. It does have a rubber surround on its mounting bracket, but its not enough. When I moved mine I added an extra anti vibration mount and it made quite a difference. Plus its now mounted to the towbar bracket so as far away from the main hab and sleeping area (our bed is across the van and behind the cab swivel seats) as possible.
Btw I run mine off its own Small tank and run Kerosene heating oil through it. This is cleaner than red diesel and cheap siphoned out of my house ch supply. Webasto seems to run nicer and hotter off kero, and should burn cleaner and coke up less on kero too if some maintenance and running tips gleaned through web searching are right. Makes sense though.
Overall a great bit of kit. Once you've pulled one apart you do wonder though why they cost so much new, cos they arent complex and sophisticated tech. Mind you mine is an oldie and still works so they must be well made and pretty robust.

Have a Webasto Airtop fitted to ours and it keeps the van warm 24/7 when we are skiing as gas runs out to quickly. With outside temps at -2 to -20 it uses about 40/45 lites a week but it's a big van. Blows hot air at the front of the van and heats the water running through the Alde wet heating system, it's brilliant.

I got an eberspacher d2 fitted to my vw t5 mainly because my friend is the local agent for them, I always start my heater 15 / 20 minutes before I get to where I am staying the night so it is running off the van charging system while it is in boost mode and not using the leisure battery, then it is up to temperature and just ticking over when you park up.
