We could be the ones causing the trouble.

Just been reading a thread on Motorhome Facts, they come across as being such a nice bunch of unassuming people. According to a thread entitled, 'Is it me?!', this is a forum with 'a few regular poster and a vast majority that join just for the wildcamping spots and we could be the ones causing the trouble.
Bloody cheek!

What is this "trouble" we are supposed to be causing?

Thank god for that then

Do they even know what wildcamping is on some of these other forums?

On the few times I have visited them, the main topic of conversation seems to be what we have just spent £75,000 on, and how our motorhome is bigger/better than anyone elses.

Or they have multiple topics with lists of wonderful "sites" to visit... only £45 a night and the wardens Pete and Jane are sooooo friendly. Well, if I was Pete, and managing to fleece my customers for £45/night for 20 sqm of gravel and a couple of privet hedges, I'd be pretty friendly too!!!

Both sites are useful. Im a member of both. I often send FACTS members over here and there are a lot of wild camping members over there as well as those who use sites.

I agree with *****. We shouldnt nock the others it doesnt look good. Just my opinion of course.

I am not a member of Facts but have just had a look at their forum to find out what this "trouble" is that we're supposed to be causing and the thing that struck me above all else was that the thread could have been on this site (indeed a few of the participants are members on here). It covered ground that we have covered and the range of views offered was the same as you would get here. True, the individual attempt to blame us was a bit silly but members on here have not been averse to blaming other sites for various things. By all means take issue with an individual viewpoint if you wish but I can't see any reason to blame the entire forum as some wish to do.

Well said that man:). I am member over there as well and totally agree with you and ***** and also John H.

Bye for now

I really only have one comment to make.

Motorhome facts is a great online forum and so is wildcamping, just because a few of the members want to slag another forum. It is not therefore the other forum that is at fault, it is only the members doing the slagging.

Let us not tar motorhomefacts with the same brush as the people who like to cause trouble.

its not only motorhome sites, its any forum, about anything, where ever someone has an opinion/point there will allways be someone to argue about it

I wasn't targeting any forum in particular but the whole industry (in it's broadest sense) has a vested interest against wild camping. This includes certain forums sponsored by advertisers, the clubs, the campsite owners, and the magazines.

Wild camping is at best tolerated. Of course, pressure is put on by clubs and campsite owners, that everyone should really do their camping in neat little boxes. Their smiles broaden at the thought of all those £ coins chinking in their tills.

Still, as I've said before the more people that use campsites the better for us. It's usually the coastal areas which attract the complaints though. The possibilities of parking off byways inland, and urban/stealth camping shouldn't be overlooked.

There's room for everyone - campsite income is probably very important in remote areas where there is little other source of income ( and i suppose they do have to invest a fair amount in getting sites up to standard they believe is expected) but there will always be those of us who want just to enjoy a remote site alone (or with our chosen companions) but some of us are less considerate about this than others - all land belongs to someone and if you chose to wild camp on the edge of someone's drive or in a passing place ( yes I have seen both happen) then you are not a good wild camper. On the other hand if you camp for a night in an unobtrusive place and move on leaving nothing but tyre tracks ( onlyt if it was wet) then who are you hurthing?

Well if you have read the postings on MHF then you know where I stand on this blame culture.

Interesting that the views of 0.001% of a total membership somehow become the official view of a whole forum.

Uber-Stereotyping at its worst.

Best way to avoid the Us & Them syndrome is to be involved in them all ;-)
A knob is a knob on any forum :lol-053:
