We are so lucky - what is your...

When we lived in South Africa Jim I had to travel to West Africa to other factories as part of my job, I loved it and I understand exactly what you mean, Africa definitely gets under your skin and I loved it as well

I too love Africa, having gone to school there and visited on many occasions. Of course there are many areas that would not be nice to visit, but overall it is wonderful in it's unique way.

Even the poorest African countries were worth visiting. The Mines I worked on were off limits to the locals and were were big havens for wildlife. I spent over 2 years in South Africa commissioning and doing maintenance work on the Sasol Refineries at Secunda and the Highveldt was a boring place. A couple of hours run however got you to Kruger Park, the Eastern Lowveldt and Swaziland. All very good for a weekend or longer. I have to say however that Rhodesia was by far the best part of Africa I have seen. If it had not been taken over by Mugabe, my Wife (who never fancied living anywhere but the UK) would have had us relocated there.

Did an "adventure tour" there (Zim) in 1989 just before a spate of troubles..
Lovely then but probably not so now.
Of course the scenery and wildlife tend to ignore politics.

Did a microlite flight over Vic Falls
Also white water rafting
