We're Home!
We ended up coming home early (if my od work colleagues could read this they'd giggle, as we do have something of a reputation for ending our holiday early) for a couple of reasons.
By Tuesday evening we had done the main "scenic route" down the North-West part of the NC500 and we parked up at a POI just past Eileen Donan castle and our son said that he Jen had enjoyed it so far but Kian, their 10-year-old son, not so much. To be fair he hasn't had much to do other than a dip in Loch Maree.
The plan as per my earlier post with the map was to carry on down to the bottom of Loch Lomand then cut across East and part ways on Thursday when they would head North to a carting track at Aviemore, and Landmark. But Kian has been to Inverness and every time he saw an Inverness sign he got all excited and said "are we going to Inverness now?".
So they decided to skip the whole Loch Ness bit of the tour and just head for Inverness and book onto a campsite better suited to Kian being able to play.
That left us to pootle off on the original route on our own, which leads onto the second reason.
I had plans to swap the fridge in the van for a larger one and the new fridge arrived just a few hours before our departure from home. It was a bit of a rush but I removed the original fridge, modified the shelves etc in our van and managed to get the new fridge installed just before we left.
Well pleased with myself!
I must admit I did think it was but quiet, but the sales spiel did say silent operation.
Turns out it was quiet because it wasn't working! This was initially masked by the addition of a load of cold/frozen food.
By the time our son told us of their change of plans the fridge was at the same temp as the van. And of course, we had glorious weather!
So we decided we would also head North and go home!
The kind of good news is that now we're home I've had the fridge out and had a look at it and found a wire was not connected on the thermostat inside the fridge (didn't need to pull it out after all). Pushed that back onto the terminal and hey presto, working fridge. I wish I had looked at this whilst we were away as it must have taken me all of about 15 minutes to trace and fix the fault!
Ah well, home is nice too.
