No photos today as we’re just spending the night at our usual spot in Kirkwall (I’ve posted many times about stopping here, in the car park opposite Tesco).

Our son has picked up a hire van and is stopping in Stromness to be nearer for the early ferry in the morning which we will both catch for the crossing to Scrabster where our holiday will start properly.

We plan to tour down Wester Ross mainly wild camping.

I’ll post our progress with photos once we get going.

I was going to suggest that you nipped into the store and took advantage of the reduction in price of Auchentoshan to £22 with a Tesco Club card.

Together with Bladnoch, it's my favourite Lowland single malt, but I've lost the plot regarding Scottish alcohol rules.

I bought a bottle a couple of days ago to toast an absent friend this coming Monday. He was born in Grangemouth, and it was his favourite tipple.

I’m assuming that’s whisky, if so at the risk of being pilloried, I can’t drink the stuff.

Sorry.

Here we are waiting to board the Hamnavoe. Shame they’re not doing proper breakfasts on the ferry.

Whilst we were waiting to board I heard the stewards mention standby vehicles so it must be full.

Stopped at Smoo Cave. We stayed in our van at the car park and “the kids” walked down to the cave.

The car park has laundry machines which I suppose could be handy. Shame they didn’t install a motorhome service point st the same time.

We’ve parked up for the night just down from Durness. I’ll not give the specific location as this it the public forum, but it is on the Location map.

Fed our little faces then took Oscar for a paddle in the stream.

Even though we are only 5 miles from the ferry, we take the B&B option of staying onboard overnight. Hate early morning starts and this means we can have a nice relaxed start to the journey 😁 Have a great trip.

That option was better when they did proper breakfasts, and when we were between dogs was our preferred option too. But now we do have Oscar we wouldn’t put him in a kennel overnight.

Just remembered that there was an article in the onboard magazine saying that Northlink have pet-friendly cabins 🤔

Yes they have, and I initially got quite excited at the idea. But the real advantage is to board the night before and then get up in time for a nice breakfast before arriving at Scrabster, but you couldn‘t do this with a pet friendly cabin as it would mean leaving the pet in the cabin which is an obvious no no.
