Do you wave at other Motorhomes? I have never really understood why people do it.
In a sort of way, I can understand why the VW Split-Screen drivers do it but why bog standard motorhomes.
So do you or don't you?

BTW - I don't

Wave

We are like ***** and wave so as not to be miserable.
What suprises me though is that the same people that wave in passing will them blank you when parked on a car park or sometimes even on a site or rally.

bikers also wave

Same for motorcyclists - we mostly wave at each other..... although given the need to retain control it is not always advisable !!!

its a sign of saying hello. yes it is miserable not to wave .we are all abit diferent to the other drivers so saying hello is a friendly greeting. the english are definately the most miserable when i am abroad. you wave and remember the face then later you may meet up and talk about your adventures . we are suposed to be happy campers not grumpy old gits . hee hee. no offence to any one but smile wave enjoy the day. cheers alan .
i used to drive a vw. and still have 5 m,bikes so may be thats why i do it.

"I feel my spleen fizz" to quote Mr Clarkson when people wave.... but when I saw another same make as mine I was so surprised that I didn't manage to wave in time

... having then swerved thru the school children that were trying to cross the A12, knocked over the two old *^%*$£"*&s on their mobility scooters and flattened a couple of Guide Dogs c/w owners I thought that I would ask what the rest of you do :D

We wave to say hello and 70% wave back.

The other 30% are grumpy old gits.

We started out by waving, but got a limited response, most people seem to be just miserable *******s,so we dont bother anymore.
And as for van conversions they seem to have an inferiority complex as they never wave at motorhomes.A sad day it was.....

We've only had our van for a few months and it came as quite a suprise to see all these people waving at us! But we do it now and you do think "miserable bugger" if people don't wave back. However, the other day we were on the M4 and it seemed like every 2nd vehicle was a motorhome and it got a bit ridiculous, I couldn't get two hands on the wheel:D

To wave - or not to wave

I agree with most folk on this one.
Personally, I think waving at other motorhomers is a positive and friendly tradition.
In these times of road rage and impatience, it is a force for good.
On the other hand, on busy roads, it can get a little repetitive and distracting.
I would not be party to any lobby to have the practice stopped - waving should be a matter of safety and above all, choice.

No longer cool !

I have to admit we do tend to wave especially in the UK. We also spend a lot of time in Italy where the majority do NOT wave. I have also been on an Italian forum similar to this and the same question arose and opinion there is also divided but mostly not in favour of waving.
I think in the UK we are good enough drivers that can let a hand go off for a few seconds (or you can flash the headlamps). It is a nice hello to a fellow MH'er and there are still relatively few on the roads so a nice hello brings a smile in an othewise dreary world.

We're wavers, again, to stop peeps thinking we are the grumpy gits!

We always wave. Just a thing to show friendliness between like minded people.

Usually wave if the road is quiet.
I also drive a Smart fortwo and most Smart drivers wave. Similar experiences when I was a motorcyclist or drove a Reliant years ago.
It's good to be friendly.

This being my first year as a camper owner I was surprised by the number of waves on the road!
The little one 'forced' to travel in the front loves it and the sense of friendliness that it brings and to be fair after a faltering start have to agree! though at times feel I should apologise to those we haven't responded to, but you've only been unoticed when the traffic is busy etc, we'd rather be deemed 'unfriendly' at times than mashed!
oh and we always spoke to those we bumped into that we had seen on the road, so good to check out each others travel tales, has been an enlightning revelation at times!
Helen :D

We wave to indicate that we appreciate your good sense not to be pulling a caravan.:D
