Our old camper needs a new water pump as it's sprung a leak.

It's currently in having MOT. The garage is having difficulty sourcing a water pump.
I ordered what I thought was the right part from Europarts, who used the vehicle reg no. etc., but it's not the right one.

It's a bit of a puzzle. I intend to get down to the garage and take some pics of the engine later today when I get a chance.

Has anybody else had difficulty finding parts? Suggestions on a postcard please...!

OOPS!

Major blunder - it's a 1998 van, not 1989! (not that that has anything to do with the water pump problem).

Can an admin change the title please? :)

The water pump sits on top of the gearbox, has a flat pulley (no ribbing at all) & its inlet pipe is at the top, with an allen screw fitting (as shown below). Just below the allen screw fitting the pipe has corroded & water is leaking out of a hole there.

It seems to be very different from the pump that's supposed to be right for the 1998 Boxer van. I could only photo the top of it as its so tight there, but am hoping this is enough to go on.

I think it would help if I got the actual part number off the original.

Why is it a feature of modern life that you are expected to do everybody else's job for them? Grrr! 😝

Would a wee weld be suffice to plug leaking hole?
Something I'm beginning to wonder about. Speaking to the garage, the pipe on top seems to be pretty unusual and it may be that the engine has been changed?
Don't think welding over existing hole would suffice, but removing the corroded inlet pipe and replacing it with another seems to be a possibility, but the garage says it wouldn't be an easy weld.

Your van will be older than first reg date, sometimes up to 3 years but mainly a year from factory to conversion,my van is reg 2000 but was made in 1997 acc to chassis numbers etc.

I used to work in the specialist radiator manufacturing industry for a while. I can only go by what I see on the photo but, if all else fails, a repair looks possible. The pipes are probably made of brass and brazed or silver soldered, not welded, into the cast base. Find a radiator repair company (internet search) who will be experienced in these techniques. They should be able to make up a new pipe complete with swage on the end to retain the hose.
Hope this helps - good luck.

It is the strangest looking water pump (it doesn't even look like one) I have ever seen as well as being in an unusual position, normally they are driven from the cambelt and would have a ridged pulley, what drives the pully?
Can you find the engine number to check if it is original,

I Thought just the same thing and studied it trying to work it out
And looking at the rusty water marks I don’t think it would do any harm to flush the system out before fill8ng back up with coolant

If you can send me the vin today i actually work for Peugeot so will put it through system and see what it comes back with. I will be honest though whether its still on file is anyones guess but its worth a try. If it is i will be able to tell you if its standard from factory or a conversion. If its standard i can give you the Peugeot part number.
Reason i say today is im off next week sorry 👍🏼

VIN no. is VF3232G4215599457
Engine no. (acc. to doc) is FZ520249122
I've been along to see if I can find the engine no. on the engine itself (just in case engine has been changed) but no luck. One of the garage staff says he will have a look later today (totally snowed-under).
