washing the van

How do you all manage to wash your vans? Ours is kept on a farm with no facilities for washing or outside our house on the road. Do you use a pressure washer or just elbow grease and a hose pipe? Or do you take them to a garage or to be valetted?

All of the above really... depending on my mood. If its a nice day I'll favor a sponge and bucket over my power washer. Then regardless of which method ive used, when I'm done I'll nip off to my local jetwash for a coat of wax.

Well...... just got mine two months ago and didn't really had time for that but I'm thinking next summer in Portugal with the nice weather and have a good go with mainly elbow grease.meanwhile i just tell the wife "yes dear" :D:D:D

What about the roof ?

I keep the sides front and back clean, mainly by using a spray ( Caravan cleaner and water).
I use a cloth, a long brush and window pad again with a long handle).
I take advantage of free Random Local Carwashes (ie Thunderstorms) and clean and dry asap after.
I also have a kitchen stool to reach the higher areas

However the roof does not get cleaned in this way.
I am thinking of using these
Prices/Details - Motorhome and Caravan Valeting , inside and out
Once maybe in the spring. Their service looks good and I will try to get them to "seal the roof"
As you cannot (often) see the roof maybe leave it get dirty.... I have read that dirt is a good protector !
We long-term in the motorhome (summer) so frequent cleaning is easily managed.
The more often you clean the easier it is !

hehe neither, not attempted to wash it yet here! I am also hoseless, and refuse to trapse through the house with soapy buckets and rinse in this weather:lol-053:

big investment a motor home and I worry about
damaging the bodywork if not cleaned especially when it has been near the sea and with all the roads being salted.

I admit to being a bit obsessive about vehicle cleaning. For the van I use muc off caravan cleaner. Spray on using a garden plant sprayer, rinse and brush gently, then rinse again. Easily do the whole van in under half an hour with excellent results. A couple of times a year I polish the cab with good carnuba wax.
For the roof I help my wife up!

I am going to do my roof today using one of those long handled car brushes, then I can clean the sides and polish it to get ready for a few Months away, I use my jetwash to clean wheel arches and underneath

i used to use a bucket and sponge for the cab ,and then a soft broom for the rear body . the chassis used to get a good jet washing once a month in the winter . the roof i climbed a step ladder and used the same broom .i found that keeping the roof clean almost eliminated the black streaks that many owners get . it was a pain keeping it clean as i used to use the van as a daily driver ,got rid of the car in the end as the van was better on fuel .

A long way to go just for a car wash !

Our 'Eastern European car wash' is just at the end of the road. Not sure they know what a van roof is though? They didn't even clean the Range Rover roof last time I went and that will be the last time!

dirty van

hello june hall.....washing a vehicle does it no good whatsoever, more important when it is very clean such as when first purchased, coat the topside in wax (asda spray furniture wax is ideal and quick to do the whole without wiping) to protect the paintwork and leave for as long as you can. windows and lights need a wipe with wet cloth occasionally, .........if you get grime build up such as on the roof, then a wash with a dishwash sponge and soapy water, so it looks clean and then more wax to protect. underseal your expensive possession if possible.........good luck......steve bristol

Decided to clean my roof yesterday mainly to get rid of leaves from the side gutters. Was frozen but managed with long brush and warm water.
Got 1/2 bucket of leaves from the gutters, probably the reason there was water on the roof.
Will do sides etc next week if it's warmer.

washing vans.

Shampoo and water in a bucket, applied with Brush on a extendable pole (from Costco). Then hose off, Job done ..

I would say 'enjoy', but today it wasn't enjoyable, maybe in summer ...
