Warning: Avoid this wildcamping area.

Whilst this must have been very frightening a BB gun won't actually do you much harm unless you are hit in the eye. The fact that they were firing from very close range and that neither the person or the van was damaged bears this out. I'm not condoning this in any way but I think it was designed to scare rather than harm and of course it worked.

There is no mention of the Police being contacted which I would have thought would be a priority once out of harms way? Even though a relatively harmless weapon, firing one at somebody would carry a heavy penalty.

Best go out prepared.

I have some experience of this, never heard or saw anything other than a lot of disturbance one night.
Next day found 2 pellets in the side of the van, one just below a window.
It hasn’t made me any more vigilant tbh as there’s little more I could do except NOT wild camp and that ain’t happening.

At this location? When you say pellets in the side of the van, do you mean embedded or just dings? If embedded I doubt it would be a BB gun?
There isn't an awful lot anyone can do if some scrotes decide to target you.

I carry a strong catapult for target practice 🤫and a shillelagh as a walking aid🤫. The idiots will no likely be long gone before I can do anything but it does give a feeling of security to some extent.

I think he said it was a catapult but it can't have been as he said there was no damage. If it had been a catapult with those size ball bearings it would have done some severe damage. Isn't 10mm too big for a bb gun? At around 3:16 you can see the first projectile and its massive. Cork size.

What a terrifying experience though. He should have gone to the police with the CCTV footage

Sadly to some extent I put this kind of behaviour down to the media.
When all people hear are negative things about any group this type of behaviour becomes more likely. We have been water bombed in Musselburgh, which was then closed to us, had our van thumped in the middle of the night, been verbally abused by a warden in St Andrews (whom I reported ) and the usual car honking by cars driving bye. None of this bothers me in itself, but it bothers my wife, and therefore it bothers me.
Sadly you cannot always get it right where to park, on our trip to the outer Hebrides this year we had a drunken lout punching our van in one of the most remote idyllic places you could imagine, fortunately his friends pulled him away, whilst apologising to us.
You never see the media or anti Motorhome groups reporting this kind of behaviour, but if one of us steps out of line either through ignorance, or simple selfish behaviour it’s jumped upon by the usual suspects,

That is very scary and would certainly put me off free stops.
In 13 years of vanning the worst I had was a fight that broke out and they pushed a lad against my van. It was in a registered aire in France.
I've not had any issues in the UK.
Does being small and blue help??

I have recently found that parking in a quiet residential area feels safer and I prefer it.

No Ral but it wasn’t far away, and there were 2 air rifle pellets imbedded in the van

I have a hab door locking bar, which is effectively 2 cut down broom handles about the size of a base ball bat, never had to use it.

A huge waterproof bass speaker under the van with a big **** off dog bark recording, it'd scare the £$%^ out of most folk.

Corks were mentioned at Merlins on Sunday, summat about a knob who uses them to fill his fresh tank.

I think I would have turned around then shot his window out and scarpered. My BB gun will definitely go through car windows.

He did say catapult Barry but I think that may be assumed rather than sen. My BB gun bearings are smaller than 10mm, I think the Yanks have some that go bigger, almost half an inch, bit don't know if they are allowed here. The reason it didn't do damage was they were shooting his cab windows and he said they are bulletproof glass

Really weird not contacting the police
