am in a campsite (shame on me!) with EHU and friends surrounding me in tents.. BUT it is soooooo windy and the MH is rocking about like a fecking boat... and i am ****ting myself!!! tell me ... how bad would the wind have to be to tip it over???

Work out which direction the wind is coming from then park facing that direction. An adaptation of an old sea dog's trick....never sail broadside to the swell me hearties...aaarrggg!
Don't hold out much hope for the geezers in the tents though......Suppose you'll be having guests tonight

Scary isn't it? Hope you take Rubber Tramp's advice and that the wind gets no stronger. Keep safe.

Serves you right for going on a site. :p

Turn the van round so it is not side on to the wind. If the front is facing the wind set the air vent in the cab to 'recirculate' to avoid a draught.

It is a great feeling to be snug and warm in bed and listening to the storm outside. Except the time we were parked up in the car park in Mallaig during a Force 10 gale.

if you got a pop top drop it down and like rt say face into wind and dont park under a tree

sounds like you've had it mate, byeeee! but on a lighter note if you go outside and look you'll see it's the body rocking on the suspension and the chassis isn't moving at all .relax and enjoy a bit of wevver

Are you sure it,s the wind making it rock your not up to naughty,s are you.:shag::shag::lol-053::lol-053::lol-053:

i am a bit worried about moving it as the ground is sodden... i dont want to get stuck wheelspinning!! lol ..gusts are getting up to 50 mph
but is nice to know that you are all there for me !!!! :rolleyes2:

being rather curmudgeonly, one of my favourite sights through my camper window is a brightly coloured tent flying past followed by a couple of very wet poor people. tragic but somehow, hilarious

On our way back from Spain driving through France. Gale force winds and torrential rain. Parked up for the night, too dangerous to drive. Got belted left, right and center. Felt the water seeping down the rear window. Spent the rest of the night taking it in turns to towel the water into a bucket. Next morning the sun came up and we slept for the best part of the day. Seal was busted. Got it fixed when we arrived in Hamburg 2 days later.

Spent a night in Ireland camped next to the Sligo Mountain rescue team, during the night the wind got up... in the night the MRT packed up and went home, and when the sun came up we were surrounded by wrecked tents and dazed campers. We were in a T4 with a 17 foot boat on the roof with no problems.

where are u thing of going fishing this weekend if the seas been turned up by the wind :)

other than that find a bigger van near u and park next to them. :)

rofl!!! no chance.. is just me and 2 youngest kids!!!

i've been in many similar situations with small kids and always turned it into a laugh so they wouldn't be scared, you can hear the gusts coming sometimes 'here it comes! here it comes! bang! got me!' fall over laughing hysterically.getting drunk helps obviously

Our Carriocca 635 is the same, it rocks even when the dog (a Jack Russell) jumps off her bed & goes for a sniff around. I am considering getting caravan style corner jacks fitted for really windy spots. Otherwise, seek out sheltered parking spots close to rocky outcrops or surrounded by trees - BUT NEVER underneath trees. parking under trees in the wind & rain leads to a constant stream of clunks, bonks & splatters as bits of tree & water splatter down on your roof all night.

Make fun out the rocking to the kids, pretend it's a fairground ride & laugh about it or they will pick up on your fear & amplify it. Caravans may blow over, but your MH will weigh far more & that weight is mostly low down too. BTW, I prefer to park rear to the wind as I get less draughts, there are no doors in the aft end & the cab has heater vents as well as many door/ window seals that may not seal as well as they should.

Well, you're braver than us, - we hightailed it straight home from Bromyard (on a -ahem, caravan site as well) and are parked back on the drive in Cornwall!! It was a bit shaky from Bodmin down, but I gather the worst is yet to come. Where are you?? Not in the Southwest, I hope??

Good luck!!

KP

(You could try inviting people in to add more weight to keep it down??? I'm sure some of those tenters would love to oblige!!)

i am on the isle of wight.. so could go home really!!! lol!
but.. cant bail on my friends.. they might need a hand if this gets much worse!
have been keeping an eye on the shipping forecasts.. i dont think its going to get much worse (famous last words) but not going to ease up for about 12 hours either!
i am in a 6 berth eldiss autostratus, on a boxer base... i think its about 3200 kgs
is making me feel dizzy !!!

Invite all your friends into the van - the weight of you all will keep the van upright :lol-049:

We were on the Isle of Wight this time last year and when we returned to our van the weather had flattened the awning. We use storm pegs so it was still on the ground flapping about like a kite.
