hi wise ones
going to see a 1993 vw westfalia eurovan saturday and apart from the usual car stuff ,rust etc , is there anything unique to vw t4 transporters or westfalia,s i should be checking out .
thanks
bob w :)
the top loading fridge is 12v ,should it cool down very quickly when switched on?
has a propex 1600 heater ,any good?

as far as i know they are usualy trouble free just take care and do the usual checks i am shure some t4 owners will give you a full lowdown . a hpi check would be a good idea as at the moment if a private sale, they is a chance there may be some outstanding finance to be wary of .some do try to get rid if they cannot afford the repayments there are some unscrupulous folks out there.good luck

Hi Jeannieandbob, we've had a VW T25 Holdsworth conversion, for a couple of years and had holidays in Cornwall & France, aswell as long weekends. Never had any real probs. Have now changed to a T4, again Holdsworth, wouldn't be without one. Just be wise when looking round as well as the obvious as you stated above, checking the condition of the cooker, fridge etc. will give you an idea how well its been cared for. If its a private sale I'd suggest a check of the electrics & gas fitments. I would expect this to be done if its from motorhome agent. Good luck & enjoy.

Cheers, Stewart :)

hi
water in our sink is very slow to drain . open the drain on the bottom of the tank and it gushes out .
there is a drain pipe on the side of the van i assme is to empty the tank when full but does not seem to work ,any ideas how to work this .a micro switch activated by the flap makes something click inside ,a solenoid i guess . take the plastic cap off and there is a valve behind which seems clear.
we had no manual as the van came in from japan and have scoured the internet but no clues at all.
puzzled ?
hope you can help
regards
bob

Hi Bob.

If the sink drains OK when the tank drain is open but not when its closed would point to a blocked air vent on the tank. I would have thought a good look round the tank should show up either a pipe or valve off the top of the tank, it is probably this that is at fault.

Westfalia are a very helpful company, try dropping them an email asking for a scanned copy of the owner's manual - you may get lucky.

Just re-read your post and see its a Jap import.
So I guess its a petrol and automatic?
same thing for the cambelt and water pump as this engine is very similar to the 5 cyl diesel. I would also get the auto transmission fluid changed.

Plenty of T4 reading here http://www.vwbooks.co.uk/t4.htm

i've heard propex heating is great, all the folks in the vw club i'm in highly reccomend it - i've not saved up enough to get it yet as ever time i've got enough money we blow it on petrol and go camping!
