Played around with it this morning and it`s now happily charging at 14.4v and floating at 13.8v after i disabled the temperature compensation.

I thought getting the smart sense was a good idea to protect my investment but it looks like i didn`t need it.

The temperature compensation can be quite dramatic sometimes. I remember a few year ago on a very cold day my charger was putting out nigh on 15V! initially I thought it was faulty until I remembered it had that feature set.
Must admit I do tend to disable it as I prefer to have the charge voltages at the lower end of the range and the compensation is usually increasing the voltages, but if you go to hotter climes, you may want to consider enaabling again to keep the voltages right (and adjusting the actual value for your specific battery, as per Merls post)

Will the victron settings go down as low as 3mV/degC David?

When we eventually get over to France and if the weather is hot enough like last year then i enable it again and set it to 3mV/degC as merl suggests.

I have checked and it does go down that low.

As I suggested previously you could just set the float voltage to 13.7V, you'll then have 30deg of latitude either side of 25DegC so down to -5 and up to +55. I cant see France topping that anytime soon even taking global warming into account!
