Ok on the land i have just brought in La Azohia to allow me to stay on the land i must show i am working the land by planting trees or veg i have been given 3 olives trees so far but i need to know the best veg to plant that does not take a lot of time looking after it just put it in the ground and leave it, to be honest i dont care if it dont grow just to show i have done what is on the licence. My brother in law is going to run the rotavator over the land this week and then one dark night going to put some shingle down and compact it down for a hard standing for the van or Ambulance as some call it.once this is done i can then get the water put on and wait for permission to fix a frame up for 5- 100 wt solar panels.:dance:

The answer is straight forward and that is to grow whatever the other local people grow successfully, in their own gardens or a local garden center or local gardening club maybe ?

Good Luck.

i would say your pretty near on the right track with your olive trees there pretty indestructible and a mate who used to have a place in greece used to have a neighbour who planted picked & processed all the olives for him giving him a couple of bottles and a small amount shown on his paperwork to prove his agricultural credentials must have been a similar set up to youths,

Brico and Leroy Merlin have battery operated timers for about 20 euros. I have about 4 here that I bought back from Spain you could have them if I could get them to you.

Plant what you like to eat

If you sort the water out then you can plant anything you like.

What about fruit trees, orange, lemon, figs what ever local grow.

If you like courgettes they take little looking after apart from water

Planting

Just wondering why ur adverse to making best possible use of the land as it's more therapeutic than anything else I know to engage with nature and bit work never did anyone any harm ,just an observation and I could be a mile off the mark.

Cannibas and you have a ready made market a drug don in one foul swoop .....what about potatoes they seem easy enough Mariesnowgoose is your person to answer this question

Have you thought about vins ? the work required as and when in France at least pickers come and pick and do the pruning for the following year ...sell to the local co operative creating a bit of income for the area might create a more sympathetic ear to any buildings etc you may erect

Other than watering. the vines didn't seem to need bugger all ...takes a couple of years for fruit to appear .

i'm no gardener , but melons seem to grow on really dry soil without much care, i picture them having massively long roots finding underground sources

Hi Ken
I have got some Artichokes in my garden. I do not eat them I put them in for there foliage. I don't look after them and don't water them...apart from the first year. They grow to about 3-4 foot high and the plant is quite big. they come up every year without fail....just a thought. Good luck with your plans.
Bye for now

There should be apple trees for that zone, requiring little water and will throw lots of flowers before the fruit each year.

Andrew I do know potatoes do need a fair amount of water and I don’t think you can go wrong with fruit trees even small ones.

Ok i cant stand gardening and i will also dont do hard work :lol-053: and the only thing i want the land for is when i go there to go fishing i want somewhere to park the van because i can see that the end to wildcamping in La Azohia could be stopped in the future and the land was cheap
