Hello, Any suggestions for a vacuum cleaner for my motorhome? I used to use my Dyson handheld but I am now 'wilding' most of the time so it is no use to me as I can't charge it.

We use a 12volt one we got from Lidl. It has a 3 year guarantee, comes with a long cable, picks up pretty well.

I don't expect it would require a very large inverter to plug in and charge your dyson you could just do it when on the move so as not to run down your battery. Possibly tell you power requirements on the charger unit.

If you compare the suction power of handhelds, you can't beat a Dyson... but if you can't charge it up then it's moot. As Witzend said, maybe try an inverter.

As was suggested to me recently, maybe ditch the carpet completely and stick to a broom/dustpan and brush, plus rugs that you can take outside for a good shake :D I quite the carpet in the colder months though... helps keep the van a bit cosier.

I have a dyson that charges from 12 volt. It's a car vacuum model, it was expensive but has lasted for ages so I think worth the money.

Pan and stiff brush for us and fingers for getting those bloody pine needles out of the carpet.

Save the 12volt

I agree with antiques. use a pan and brush will save your precious 12v power, and give you a bit more exercise which no doubt you need, like me.......steve bristol

Aldi had a 120 mw. Inverter on at under £20 last week. Might be worth a shufti.
I'm thinking of chucking away my solar panels.
We're in Wales and have never had chance to use them..
Just dead weight.

This is really good. Not 12v but will go for quite a while between charges. Picks up dog hair too.

Sorry, forgot to turn phone around, hope you've not been slacking at the Yoga classes!

thank you for your advice, I called dyson this morning and although they don't do a 12 volt charger for our new hoover they do one which works with the old handheld one, so excellent new and one is winging its way to me now.

thank you to all who post with helpful suggestions.
