Unintended consequences.

Crowded rooms, pubs, eateries, they don't cope well in picking out the speech amidst the background noise.

Have you not got the special mode for that situation?

On my NHS aids I change the mode by pressing the button on my right hearing aid.

It gives beebs to indicate the mode.

1 beeb = normal
2 beebs = pub (filters out background noise)
3 beebs = infrared (gets signal from tx plugged into headphone sockets)

Only just found out, I have an app that connects to my NHS aids so can adjust with my phone. BeMore. (y)

I have the latest NHS aids in both ears. Game-changer for me as calls from my mobile are blue-toothed into my ears, as are message tones and alerts. You can choose the modes available to you through the app, I have one for walking, hearing loop, noisy environment etc. Although both aids are programmed specifically for me, I can alter the volume, tone and direction through the app. I find that narrowing the field down to 15° helps best in a noisy environment but you have to be looking directly at who/what you want to hear.
The NHS appears to be a bit of a lottery. Hereford audiology are tops. My brother moved to Hampshire and was referred to an outside provider who has given him some cheap option that aren't a patch on mine.

Unfortunately, those who don't need them often don't realise they are only aids. They cannot give you back what you've lost.

This morning, sitting in the van less than 2m from the kettle, I didn't realise it was boiling and whistling, until the smoke alarm went off.😹

I have had mine since a head injury burst my left ear drum, I was suffering with tinnitus really bad before that though and had poor hearing but never thought about hearing aids, the first time I wore them I was sat in the lounge and I could hear Maggy in the kitchen chuntering away calling me names, I went into the kitchen and politely asked what the problem was 🤣🤣🤣, she admitted she had been doing it for years to relieve stress 🤔, it is strange but she hasn't done it since.
It made zero sense to me anyway, how can they make the tinnitus better? for the amount of deafness that I "possibly" have, I manage fine.
My tinnitus completely disappears when I put my aids in Kev, the audiologist told me that it helps a lot of people but not everyone unfortunately.

I should have them as if there is background noise I struggle to hear what people say at times. Last time it was discussed though I was advised not to because Caz won't wear hers. They said it would just wind me up more all the time lol
I stopped using my hearing aids because she would.nt stop banging doors, rattling cutlery drawers etc etc.
Everything is amplified.
She does.nt get it.

I did try them, but the tinnitus was just the same, they just amplified other sounds and were annoying.

My Tinnitus is getting worse and I thought there was nothing could be done about it. I might look into it a bit more, thanks for the info.
