We have been using Gas It refillable bottles on our van for years but now had a change to a panel van conversion with limited space so need to have a tank fitted underneath. So has any one had a under tank fitted, if so where did you get it done. One place I contacted would not entertain it as they said there is no space on panel vans. The van is a 2008 Citroen Relay LWB.

Any comments or suggestion would be most welcome.

What an odd sounding place. There are loads of locations that you can fix gas tanks, water tanks etc, etc.

We had ours done by autogas2000 in thirsk. Very helpful and frequent contributors to the various motorhome magazines.

I'm sure there are other equally good specialists dotted around the country.

Hi ,we have a wildax van based on a Citroen relay and as standard it comes with a refillable gas tank which is mounted underneath the van. So it can be done.

We considered having a tank fitted similar to the WildAx that we once hired, we didn't in end, but iirc the position of WildAx tank might not work with the larger fuel tank (not sure on that one), whatever there should be other places to fit a tank.

Did loads of research on panel vans before deciding on a 'C' class.
Most if not all panel van converters fit under slung tanks.

I am looking at this and wondered. Due to the layout under my camper (Weinsberg Komet 1997) can i fit to tanks, one on either side and have a linking pipe, to make them act as a single, larger tank ?

The tanks would also be outside the main, front to back chassis members, is this allowed (Safety)

Thanks

I used Autogas 2000 too. Very happy with work carried out.

No idea about fitting two tanks.

I'm not sure that a balance pipe would be the safest way to go unless you can fit excess flow valves in the event of the pipe failing. The excess flow valves detect a sudden drop in pressure then close, doubt if they are cheap or even available in a campervan size.

For what its worth I have a 30 litre tank and it lasts about 90 days of use - 2 burner cooker, fridge, water heater. Fridge is designed/approved for on road use so that is on 24 hours a day when travelling.

That is sounding about right, I was hoping to, to save the big area in the middle for additional storage but I think it is going to be a fools errand

We used Autogas 2000, very very pleased with the service, they took us right through the prose and cons of where to fit so that it would be safe, also fitted cut of tap inside so no problems when going on the tunnel.

Good service would always recommend them.

my hymer has the tank outside the chassis rail. dont know who fitted it though.

That is really my question. Does anyone know if that is allowed (legal) or advisable? Fitting the tanks on the outer side of the main chassis, front to rear members. In my case to the rear of the current gas locker and in front of the low Tool pull out drawer on the opposite side

I have seen on the Gas It website that they sell Bottle Joining / Connection Hoses, does this mean a two tank option is an option ?

I'd say most tanks are fitted outside of chassis members, on panel van conversions. The conventional place to fit a tank on my van would have been between wheels on the drivers side. As I have two side sliding doors, that space is taken up by the step, so mine is fitted at the rear where spare wheel would normally be. Give autogas 2000 a call, they were extremely helpful over the phone when I first made enquiries.

autogas 2000

I bought a 38ltr gas tank for autogas 2000 and fitted it myself with no probs it came with mounting bracket already welded on so it was just a matter of bolting it to the underside of the floor well pleased i also added a large alloy plate in front of it to protect it from stone chips .

As others have said, give them a ring, they are a friendly bunch and happy to chat through things
