Evening all.
Thinking about fitting a pair of all terrain tyres to the front (to start with) on our 2011 fwd mk7 transit. I wanted to keep to the original size ( 215/75/R16) but can only find 225/75/R16. Anyone else on here own the same van and can tell me if the 225's would foul the wheel arches and/or suspension on full lock? I was looking at Goodyear Wrangler All terrains in particular. Will be keeping the standard steel wheels.
Cheers
Colin.🙂

I would think you’ll be fine. I upgraded my Crafter from 215 to 235 BFGs with no problems.

I've just found these in the size I need for the van and that would suit my needs. However the speed rating is Q which I think is max 100mph. Our van has a 70mph limiter what do you guys think?

My 215 tyres on my Mk7 are very close to the struts so unless I used a rim with a greater offset I might have a problem with a 225 width.

When considering any replacement tyres is that they MUST conform to the all important OE specifications, if they don't then technically they are illegal.

Get them to mount one tyre on a wheel and check it’s not going to foul anything before you buy unless your buying online?

I would be very weary of fitting a tyre that doesn’t have good reviews, BF Goodrich do all terrain in 215/75/R16, I run BFG on my 4x4 they are great off road, but not so on road, also all terrain are very noisy.

I run Michelin cross climate on the Motorhome great on the road and very good on wet grass / mud don’t do more off road than that.

All terrain on the front axle and normal road tyres on the rear is not a good idea

Fully agree, off road tyres are great for a vehicle which is primarily used off road, not so good on road. Whilst the idea of a tyre which gives good off road grip might seem attractive for the odd occasion where it's muddy, if you are mainly doing thousands of miles on tarmac that to my mind has to be the primary consideration.

I could only find BF's in 215/75/ R15. I have 16 rims.

I've found some Rikens ( owned by Michelin) In the correct size and ratings which are road tyres with a very slight off road capability ( gravel/ very light mud) so I'll probably go for those.

Thanks everyone for the input.

Colin 🙂👍
