Tyres

I am experiencing great difficulty, in sourcing a new set of Michelin Agilis Camping tyres, 225/65 16R, that are NEW, that is manufactured this year 2017.

No one, so far, will guarantee that they will be brand new! Don't know what to do next. The current tyres are now about 12years old, still quite legal and servicable, but need replacing. Michelin, themselves are not heplful, and say that any newly supplied tyres, manufactured up to 5yrs ago, will be ok.

Am I the only one that asks if a new set will be of this years manufacture? or does everyone else just trust to luck?

You could try what I done,
I Phoned a tyer company and asked them to 'Order in 7 2016 Michelin agilis tyres' for me.
had them fitted with High Pressure valves a few days later.

Michelin obviously want last years remaining stock to be sold off first. So they reckon a tyre is ok if held in storage for 5 years (in the correct conditions of course lol). Presumably they would state a further 5 years on the road would also be ok?
A bit of complicated arithmetic needed here, 5 + 5 = 10. Conclusion is that Michelin advise that their tyres are good for up to 10 years. Yes I know that a tyre being held in storage is not the same as conditions as actual on vehicle road usage but can anyone guarantee that a tyre stockists keeps tyres in ideal conditions?
Anyway adequate info for me to decide not to chuck otherwise good condition tyres out unnecessarily early, eg 6 years.

I have phoned several companies, to try to get an assurance that a set of new tyres would be brand new, but NO one, will promise to supply tyres manufactured this year, or even last year!

I also want the alloys refurbishing, so am talking about spending around £1000. You would think that somebody would want the custom!

I know that some motorhomers talk about replacing tyres at about 5 or 6 years old, but I think they must be replacing them with old tyres, anyway, judging by my own experience. Unless somebody can tell me differently.

Just bought 4 new tyres. Two were manufactured near the end of last year, two near the beginning.

More or less the point I'm making in post 23. Look on the bright side there are probably quite a few bods out there, have chucked out their near full tread 6 year old tyres because they're "aged" and replaced them unknowingly with 5 year old stock, kind of funny, but serious really.

i doubt whether any tyre stockholder will have the age of each tyre recorded on their computer system...realisticly they arnt going to wander into the warehouse and look at tyre sidewall markings , indeed the warehouse might not even be anywhere near to the guy youre talking to, theyre probably wishing you went elsewhere and bother someone else..
